Bin collection today - 31 May

Apologies from Biffa, but they have had a nightmare of a day with vehicle breakdowns and many areas of Uffington and other local villages have not been collected. They will commence collections tomorrow from these streets before starting their planned collections.

Spending reductions by Oxford County Council

We learnt towards the end of last year that OCC were contemplating reductions to the services they provide, on account of reductions in Government funding and budget pressures - for example:

"Demand for services is increasing and the council is legally obliged to meet the needs of the most vulnerable. For instance, the number of children on a social care plan doubled between 2010 and 2015 and the number of adults receiving home care (i.e. basic needs such as bathing and feeding) has gone up by 60% in three years."

OCC have run various consultations and they agreed their budget for 2016 / 2017 in February. Since then there have been a number of hints but we have now learnt from press releases:
The 67 Bus Service as it currently stands will cease at the end of service on Saturday 23rd July 2016.
The Mobile Library
The Oxfordshire mobile library service will cease in September 2016 with mobile library visits to schools ceasing at the end of the Summer Term 2016. The press release says that service users will be informed formally of the changes and alternative provision by letter on June 6th.

Both of these items will be on the agenda for the next Parish Council meeting on 13 June.

Vale of White Horse Local Plan - Bulletin 1

"We would like to introduce you to our Vale of White Horse Local Plan Update Bulletin. This is a first in a series of progress updates on the Vale of White Horse Local Plan: 2031. It sets out an update from the council on the progress of the Local Plan 2031 Part 1, and in particular, the timetable for receiving an Interim Report from the Planning Inspector. It also looks ahead and introduces our proposed approach to preparing the Local Plan 2031: Part 2.
It is important we demonstrate that we can progress our Local Plan 2031: Part 2 in accordance with our published timetable set out in the Local Development Scheme 2016, with formal submission timetabled for February 2018.
We will shortly begin work on the early stages of preparing for the Local Plan 2031: Part 2. This will include a 'Call for Sites' consultation where we will be asking landowners and agents, who are interested in having their land considered for housing and economic development, to submit information on their sites. This is normal best practice in commencing a policy document of this nature. The outputs from this consultation will help to compile a comprehensive list of sites that may be available for housing, employment and other uses. This list will assist the council (and where appropriate Neighbourhood Plan Groups) in its site assessment process to determine which sites that are most suitable for development and inclusion in the Local Plan: Part 2. The Call for Sites consultation will commence on 10 June 2016 and last for six weeks.
The Local Plan 2031: Part 2 will seek to allocate smaller (non-strategic) sites that are needed to augment those included in the Local Plan 2031: Part 1 and to address the level of unmet housing need for Oxford that should be addressed within the Vale of White Horse.

Uffington Primary School Art Exhibition

From Uffington Primary School:

As part of our links with other schools within the Springline Partnership (*), we are holding an Art Exhibition at school of work produced by the children. The work is around the theme of the Queen's 90th Birthday which will be displayed in the school hall. The exhibition will be open from 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm on Friday 10th June (tying in with our Royal Day) and from 9 am to 11.30 am on Monday 13th June. We will be serving light refreshments during both events. We would like to extend a warm invitation to all of the local community to visit us to view the childrens' beautiful art work and to help us celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.

EU Referendum debates

I'm getting in touch to let you know about 3 EU Referendum debates which will be taking place in the constituency over the next few weeks.

The first one takes place at Didcot Civic Hall tomorrow, Friday 27^th May at 7pm.

If you can't make it along tomorrow there will be future debates in Faringdon and Wantage:

· Faringdon- Friday 3^rd June, 7pm at The Corn Exchange

· Wantage- Friday 17^th June 7pm at The Beacon

If you're undecided, or want to learn more, I'd encourage you to come along.

The EU Referendum on Thursday 23 June is to decide whether the UK will remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union.
Register to vote
To vote you must register by 7 June. To register to vote visit gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Registering to vote is quick and easy. You just need your National Insurance number, date of birth and address.
Vote by post
If you'd like to vote by post time is running out to arrange this. The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 8 June – apply for one at www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk/votebypost.
Vote by proxy – allowing someone to vote on your behalf
If you think you might be away or struggle to get to a polling station on 23 June you could apply to let someone else vote on your behalf – this is called a proxy vote – but we must receive your application by 5pm on Wednesday 15 June. Visit www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk/votebyproxy to apply.

Finally - Working at the Referendum
We are currently looking for people to help at polling stations and at the count on 23 June. Please help spread the word - pay ranges from £40 to £225 depending on the role. To see what's on offer please see www.southoxon.gov.uk/electionjobs.

Summer lunches, in aid of St Mary's Church

This year's Summer Lunches start on 1st June in Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, every Wednesday during June and July, 12.30 - 2pm. Delicious home cooked meals and a range of puddings, free tea and coffee. £6 for a main course, £3 for pudding.
