They provide training opportunities to young people and, after funding their own costs, help other good causes. They are based in Warrington but will send you a free courier label and you just need to parcel up your items and take them to the Co-op in Watchfield.

Older People's Strategy for Oxfordshire
This may be of interest to those concerned about support for the elderly. We have been asked to pass on the following information by the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group. They are asking anyone who might be interested in the development of a new Older People's Strategy for Oxfordshire, including professionals and older people, to share their views on what is important to people as they age. Village news 24 August 2018 White Horse Show
St. Mary's Church would appreciate any contributions for their stall at the White Horse Show of garden produce, fruit or vegetables, plants and any jars of jam and chutney you have spare. The Old School Room
The Parish Council is very pleased to report that the restoration of the Old School Room is nearly complete. The scaffolding was removed last week and the blue mess hut will be going very soon. The builders (JB Kerr Stone Repair and Conservation Services Ltd) have done an excellent job in setting up the 400 year old building for the next phase of its life. If you are interested in the detail, the re-pointing is of a very high standard, the new guttering and its supporting brackets are a work of art, and an unnecessary extension to the original chimney has been removed. As a by-product, the Fernham Road has been widened by up to a meter in places by cutting back the verge to reveal a line of sarsen stones which have been buried for years! Grass seed has been scattered on the path in front of the building so please avoid that for the time being.
We are planning an open evening in the autumn in order to thank all those who have contributed to the project – watch this space for the date.

Nfib Alert - Bogus Overseas Officers
Fraudsters are contacting overseas students and visitors who are in the UK via their mobile phone or social network account and purporting to represent UK or foreign law enforcement. After fraudsters have claimed to work with their respective embassy or government, they tell the victim that there is evidence in the form of forged documentation or parcels which implicate them in a crime such as money laundering, fraud or immigration offences.
After demanding further personal details from the victim such as their name, current address and copies of personal documentation, they threaten the victim by suggesting a warrant exists for their arrest which will result in their deportation and imprisonment unless they transfer a payment to them in order to cancel the arrest or pay a fine. Once the money is transferred, all contact between the victim and the fraudster is severed. What You Need To Do: - Police will never ask you to withdraw to transfer money so "it can be checked", neither would they demand money in order to cancel an arrest.
- Do not be tricked into giving a fraudster access to your personal or financial details no matter who they say they are; protect your information and have the confidence to question and refuse unusual requests.
- If you have made a payment to someone claiming to be the police or government department, and you think you might be a victim of fraud, you can report it to Action Fraud any time of the day or night using our online fraud reporting tool. You can also get advice about fraud or cyber-crime by calling 0300 123 2040.
- If you are a student you can ask your Student Union or University for advice, help and support.
Rural Crime Update for Vale of the White Horse Area
Hare coursing & hunting
Tyre marks found in a field in Buckland, Faringdon between 6pm on 06/08 and 8am on 07/08. 3-4 people seen with dogs in a field in Baulking, Faringdon at 6.07pm on 13/08. Tyre marks found on farm land near Pusey at 4.45pm on 16/08; dogs were seen in a vehicle which was speeding away from the location.
• Suspected hare coursing in Buckland after fence posts were removed to gain access to a field, which was then driven across between 11am-1pm on 11/08. A vehicle containing 2 males was seen in a field in Childrey. It was reported that dogs were chasing deer at 8.40pm on 16/08.
Warrant at Chowle Farm, Faringdon
Faringdon Neighbourhood Team executed a warrant at a location in Great Coxwell with fantastic support from Wantage, Didcot and Abingdon Neighbourhood teams. Two confirmed stolen vehicles were seized, one stolen caravan, numerous barrels of suspected stolen red diesel and found the end of a cannabis factory which is to be seized and destroyed.
Dwelling and non-dwelling burglaries
Burglary to a workshop after the doors were kicked open. A leaf blower and a chain saw were stolen from the property in Buckland, nr Faringdon between 3pm and 3.12pm on 17/08.
Garage broken into after the padlock was cut, at a property in Buckland nr Faringdon. Household power tools were stolen between 3am-7.30am on 13/08.
Break in to a garage at a property in Buckland nr Faringdon between 3am-7.30am on 13/08. A pedal cycle was stolen.
Residential burglary to a property in Buscot Wick, Faringdon between 11.30am and 4pm on 04/08. Suitcases containing the victim's belongings were stolen.
Garage broken into at a property in Rectory Lane, Longworth . A crowbar was used to cause damage to the door and the lock between 11am on 10/08 and 5pm on 17/08. Nothing was stolen.
Three sheds were broken into at a property in Summertown, East Hanney, Wantage. Garden and power tools were stolen between 2.45pm and 4.45pm on 16/08.
Theft from vehicles
Theft from a vehicle whilst it was parked at White Horse Hill car park between 11.25am and 11.55am on 16/08. Electrical items and personal belongings were stolen after the front and rear windscreens were smashed. On 11/08 there were 4 reported thefts from vehicles in the area- 2 occurred at Sparsholt Firs and 2 at Ashbury Hill.
Wantage area
On 08/08 there was several vehicles broken into whilst they were parked in East Lockinge woodland car park. On the same day, a vehicle was broken into whilst parked on Chain Hill, Wantage. On 02/08 between 7.45pm and 8pm a report of 2 people with a dog which was chasing a deer in a field off Drayton Road, Milton, Abingdon. 3 males were seen with a dog in farm fields near Manor Road, Wantage at 8.25pm on 20/08.

NFU and Crimestoppers launch new Rural Crime Reporting Line
The NFU has today launched a new service for farmers and the public to give information anonymously about rural crime, in partnership with the charity Crimestoppers.
The "Rural Crime Reporting Line" is part of the NFU's ongoing work to tackle the serious issues surrounding criminal behaviour on farms and in the wider countryside.
By ringing 0800 783 0137 or visiting www.ruralcrimereportingline.uk, farmers, rural businesses and the public can anonymously give information about crime relating to: large-scale, industrial fly-tipping, hare coursing machinery theft; or livestock theft.

August Bank Holiday bin collection changes. Householders are reminded by Vale of White Horse District Council of changes to their bin collections during the week following Bank Holiday Monday. There will be no bin collections on Bank Holiday Monday 27 August. Everyone's bins will then be collected one day later than usual. This includes households who normally have their bins emptied on a Friday – crews will be working on Saturday 1 September to catch up. In Vale of White Horse this is food waste and rubbish (grey bin) collection week.

Appeal for Oxfordshire Memories and Objects from the Second World War to the 1970s from the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum
The Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum (SOFO) in Woodstock is planning a new 1930-1970s Oxfordshire exhibition and is now appealing to the public for help filling new displays with local stories and mementos.
The new exhibit will link the home front and domestic experience more closely with the county's military history and tell the stories of the women and children living in close proximity to the various military bases and locations that feature so heavily in the area's history.
One example is a child's necklace given to a young Oxfordshire girl during the Second World War, having been made by a German POW held at a local camp. Local POWs often made toys and children's playthings to sell for a little extra cash. The necklace was kindly donated to the museum by Rosemary Warner from Witney.
A set of dog-tags also planned to feature in the upcoming exhibition form a reminder of one young man's time in the Stalag Luft III camp, now in Poland, and infamous as the location of 'The Great Escape'. Sgt Leslie Mitchell from Woodstock was captured aged just 19 after his plane came down in 1940. He remained a prisoner until 1945. All the time he kept in touch with home, and the letters sent to him provide a fascinating insight into war-time Oxfordshire.

We're looking for ordinary items that are typical of each era – perhaps baby clothes, children's toys, empty tins and packets, and items from the home. Perhaps you have diaries, letters or memorabilia from family members who lived through the Home Front in the Second World War, post-war National Service or the Cold War?"
