Appeal for witnesses following an incident of livestock worrying – Faringdon. We are appealing for witnesses following an incident of livestock worrying in Faringdon.
Yesterday (24/4), between 4pm and 5.15pm, on Highworth Road, Watchfield, Faringdon, a sheep was attacked by a dog and has sadly died.
Investigating officer PC Alasdair Uren, from our Rural Crime Taskforce, said: "I would like to hear from anybody who has dash-cam, CCTV or doorbell camera footage that has captured the incident to please contact us. You can make a report via our website or by calling 101, quoting crime reference number 43250199751. Alternatively, for 100% anonymity, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Annual Assembly 2025. We would like to thank all those who attended the Annual Assembly last Monday 14th April. WHAT'S ON - IN & AROUND UFFINGTON
Exhibition in Wantage. Giles Dawson, former resident of Woolstone, now editor of the quarterly Courier, has arranged an exhibition of the etchings of his late mother, Patricia V. Dawson (1925-2013) to mark her centenary. Patricia was a prolific and highly regarded printmaker for some 25 years, regularly selected for the Royal Academy summer exhibition and having work purchased by the British Museum and the French National Library as well as many private individuals. The exhibition, at the Dolphin Gallery, 23-24 Market Square, Wantage, runs from Tuesday 22nd April to Saturday 3rd May. The Gallery is closed on Sunday and Monday.

The Swire Arts Prize competition and exhibition – 26 and 27 April. This annual event will be held in the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall on the weekend of April 26 and 27. So, some History:
This is the 9th year of the Competition which celebrates the history, the scenery and views and the folklore along the length of the Ridgway in art form. There is a different theme for the entries each year. This year the theme is Colours and Hues of the Ridgeway. There are four categories; - Wall art – any medium
- Sculpture including glass and ceramics
- The written word – Poetry, essay, prose
- Photography
The exhibition will be open to members of the public between 10:00-16:00 both Saturday and Sunday April 26 and 27. Oxfordshire County Council election 2025. On Thursday 1 May 2025, the Oxfordshire County Council election will be taking place. The election will be held on the new boundaries, which were brought into force by The Oxfordshire (Electoral Changes) Order 2025. After the 1 May 2025 elections, the number of county councillors will increase from 63 to 69 elected members, representing the residents of Oxfordshire. Make Uffington's Roads Safer - Join Speedwatch! Do you care about the safety of our village? Are you concerned about speeding vehicles putting pedestrians, cyclists, children, the elderly, infirm, horse-riders, and family pets at risk? If so, we need your help!
Uffington's Speedwatch team is a vital part of keeping our community safe. Since 2022, we've been working to deter speeding, but we need more volunteers to make an even bigger impact. In the last year alone, 98 speeding notices were issued by Thames Valley Police as a result of our sessions – a stark reminder that speeding is a serious issue right here in our village.
Why Volunteer? - Make a Real Difference: You'll be directly contributing to safer roads for everyone.
- Community Spirit: Join a friendly team of local residents who care about our village.
- Flexible Commitment: Sessions are typically one hour and work around your availability.

Stay vigilant for ticket fraud ahead of top events and concerts this summer. In Action Fraud's new campaign, we are urging people planning to buy tickets or attend this summer's events and concerts to stay vigilant to criminals. According to new data, £9.7 million was lost to ticket fraud in 2024 in the UK alone. Action Fraud, the national fraud and cybercrime reporting service, has launched a new ticket fraud awareness campaign, warning people to be alert to fraudsters trying to catch out people planning for popular and sold-out events.
Follow our top tips to avoid falling victim to ticket fraud. - Only buy tickets from the venue's box office, official promoter or agent, or a well-known ticketing website.
- ·Avoid paying for tickets by bank transfer, especially if buying from someone unknown. Credit card or payment services such as PayPal give you a better chance of recovering the money if you become a victim of fraud.
- The password you use for your email account, as well as any other accounts you use to purchase tickets, should be different from all your other passwords. Use three random words to create a strong and memorable password, and enable 2-step verification (2SV).
- Be wary of unsolicited emails, texts or adverts offering unbelievably good deals on tickets.
- Is the vendor a member of STAR? If they are, the company has signed up to their strict governing standards. STAR also offers an approved Alternative Dispute Resolution service to help customers with outstanding complaints. For more information visit star.org.uk/buy_safe.
