We will be serving Soup, Pizzas, Toasted sandwiches, Cream teas and cakes. The hare is a celebration of the White Horse and other landmarks in the surrounding area and has been painted in a moonlight setting using colours of autumn. Ruth De Wilton and Karen Pilcher would like to bid to buy the hare for the village so that it can be displayed in various locations throughout the year – the 3 churches, museum, school and pubs to name just a few. The minimum bid in the auction is £1,000 and a Crowdfunding page has been set up to raise as much as possible so that a final bid can be made on the closing date of the 5th October 2018. With only 8 days to go we need £90 every day so every £1 helps! If the bid is successful any surplus funds raised will be donated to the Uffington, Baulking and Woolstone defibrillator fund. In September we had an excellent talk on Successful Fruit Growing by Philip Aubury, learning how to plant properly, prune and the best varieties to grow.  So in summary we should all be eating more home grown fruit. We've seen a sharp increase in reports about fake TV Licensing emails claiming to offer refunds. The emails state that the refund cannot be processed due to "invalid account details". The links provided in the emails lead to phishing websites designed to steal personal and financial details. Always question unsolicited requests for your personal or financial information in case it's a scam. The Cotswold Hare Trail depicted 129 hares differing in size from 6 inches to 5ft and now the trail has finished, all the hares are to be auctioned for charity. All are welcome to come for coffee and cake and to support this worthwhile cause.   The Teapot Tearoom, Britchcombe Farm Uffington - Saturday and Sunday 11.00 am – 5.00 pm As we move into the autumn we have a slight change of opening hours. From this Saturday we will be open from 11.00 am until 5.00 pm. It will affect the owners of all properties which are NOT connected to a mains drainage system.  If we can find out more, in plain English, we will advise accordingly, but if you are in the process of buying or selling a house without mains drainage, you might like to consult your advisers. The law changed in 2015 and is fully in force by January 1, 2020, or when you sell the property (if selling before this date). For more information on how to stay secure online, visit www.cyberaware.gov.uk   Wantage and Faringdon Rural Crime Update 17/09/2018 Faringdon area: • 17–20 August  – theft - WESTMILL FARM WATCHFIELD – trailer has been stolen behind locked gates on the farm. • 22 August  – hunting - RECTORY FARM BUCKLAND – u/k suspects have removed a fence post and a vehicle has driven over fields suspected poaching. • 23–24 August  – hunting - COMPTON BEAUCHAMP ESTATE WOOLSTONE - tyre marks in field that have appeared over night or this morning. Appears they have been out hunting for hare or deer. They have possible moved stone blockade to enter fields. • 24– 5 August - theft- SWANNYBROOK FARM KINGSTON BAGPUIZE – theft of cement mixer. • 9 September  -  hare coursing - BUSCOT WICK FARM BUSCOT WICK – maroon ford focus vehicle, two males seen to run dogs after hares on the farm, then proceeded on a joy ride around the farm. • 9–10 September  – hunting - COMPTON BEAUCHAMP ESTATE WOOLSTONE - hare coursing in the area, tyre marks across the field and a dead hare located. • 11 September 18 - hunting- WHITE HORSE,STATION ROAD,FAWLER ROAD UFFINGTON - hare coursing in progress, person with two dogs chasing hares. Wantage area • 25–26 August  – hunting - BLANDYS FARM LETCOMBE REGIS – overnight poaching of deer/ hare – vehicle tracks through field. • 26–27 August  – hunting - BLANDYS FARM LETCOMBE REGIS – same location as above- further poaching – dead hare found. • 5–6 September  - theft - DENCHWORTH ROAD GROVE – Water browser (2000L) stolen. • 8 September  – burglary non dwelling - WINDMILL DAIRY UNIT EAST LOCKINGE – no entry gained to building, items stolen include tools approx. £1000 which were left out. Jewellery Burglaries Thames Valley Police has received reports of burglaries where houses have been targeted for high-value gold jewellery. Often, the gold is melted for cash or sold on.  Avoid giving burglars this opportunity by following some simple crime prevention tips:- • Please don't keep your high value jewellery at home –  use a bank safety deposit box • If you have to keep your jewellery at home, then please invest in a home safe suitable for protecting your jewellery, your insurance company will provide advice as to which type and grade of safe best suits your needs • Keep an inventory of your jewellery. This can be done in a paper version or online with companies such as Immobilise. Place your jewellery against a plain background with a ruler next to it to give an idea of size • Check your home insurance to ensure that it covers keeping high-value jewellery at home • Make sure your home is kept secure at all times – windows/ door locks, timers that switch lights on when going out Set your house alarm if you have one  • As with other valuables, do not leave jewellery on display • Use forensic marking to identify your jewellery. The autumn tidy has been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday 3 / 4 November.   Sale of Baulking Lake Since the sale of Baulking Lake some months ago, work has been started in the last few days by the new owners, who are Embryo Habitats Limited, based in Basildon Essex, who own a number of angling lakes around the country, which are run on a 'not for profit' basis, but to maintain quality angling venues and environments. See: Home - Embryo Angling   The work being carried out currently, hence the large diggers and equipment, is to clear the ditches to the lake, cut hedges and grass, including the rights of way, shore up the north-east banks of the lake and fence the newly acquired land, principally to protect the water and it's future stock, from otters. This is expected to take some weeks, and the contractor, has stressed that any inconvenience caused will be short-term.
