| Every week the Government publishes a list of areas it is concerned about based on coronavirus infection rates and other local intelligence. Places are categorised as either "areas of concern", "areas of enhanced support" or "areas of intervention", and measures range from increased testing to stricter lockdowns. Both Swindon and Oxford are on the Government watchlist with a status of an "area for enhanced support". What this means in practice is that they will have prioritised access to - as needed - increased national support and resources to assist local containment action. Uffington Wed Walk - 2nd Sept 2020 - Uffington to Longcot via Oxleaze
It was lovely to see such a good turnout again for our August walk. A suitably distanced walk in small groups is proving popular! Ride and Stride, Saturday 12th September, 10am-6pm
Cycle, walk or horse ride between the churches in Oxfordshire to raise money for your church and Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust. Sponsorship forms are online this year from www.ohct.org.uk/ride-stride plus a list of which churches are taking part. Please check before you Ride or Stride! Last year over £112,000 was raised and each church in our benefice gets 50% of what the parishioners can raise with all the proceeds going towards repairs to our churches which is very much welcomed by the church wardens! Uffington Cricket Club

This update includes: 75th anniversary of VJ Day
Saturday 15 August is the 75th anniversary of VJ Day – the end of the second World War in the Far East. A wreath will be laid at 11.00 am on Saturday, at the War Memorial in St Mary's Churchyard. All are welcome to join, observing social distancing regulations.
Maintaining the water level in the pond
The drainage experts in the village (real or self-confessed) may have spotted that the water level in the pond is maintained by a very basic tin plate (with dimensions of c18 x 12 inches) placed against the mouth of the exit pipe. Somebody removed this 'dam' about 2 weeks ago causing the water level to drop. A new one has now been created and placed in position. It is there for a purpose, to control the level of water in the pond and the circulation around the village - reducing the level of water in the pond may also adversely affect the wildlife dependent on it. So please do not remove it.
If anybody finds that they have the old plate in their garden, please return it.
'Little Kickers'
The Parish Council has agreed that Little Kickers (Oxford Aylesbury & West Oxford) may use the Jubilee Field on Sunday mornings from 09.00 to 11.30, from 23 August until mid-September. Little Kickers claim to be the world's biggest and most successful pre-school football academy, and are very keen to get classes back after lockdown and kids back to regular weekly exercise. They have adapted their classes now to suit social distancing and brought in thorough cleaning measures as well as leaving gaps between sessions for parents to leave and arrive.
