Uffington Primary School – Dogs
Please be aware that dogs are banned from the Primary school site, as clearly specified by notices, (unless supporting a person with a disability). Anyone walking their dogs near the school premises should have them on a lead and under control. A recent incident which involved a dog gaining access to the playground terrified some pupils and local Police have been informed.

Table sale
Uffington Community Cafe invites you to a Table Sale at the Hall this Saturday. From 11.30 till 1.30, there will be many tables and all sorts of bargains. Entry is free. The Cafe will be open in the large hall from 11.00 till 2.30, serving all sorts of homemade goodies. Free fruit for children with a paying adult. There will also be Corallion Cycle Club Bike Doctors, who will do a winter check, sort out minor repairs and give advice. They will also give information on their weekly rides in the area. Black Friday alert
We all love a bargain, but please be cautious whilst shopping online this Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If an online offer looks too good to be true, it probably is. There are a number of simple tips to help spot a fake site: - Sense check the domain name
- Are the prices too good to be true?
- Never pay by bank transfer – legitimate sites will accept payment via usual methods, such as bank card and PayPal
- Check the Terms and Conditions, and policies are clear and fair
- Read online reviews of the company and its products to check for customer satisfaction ratings.

Fraud warning
Thames Valley Police are reminding members of the public that the Police will NEVER contact you in person or by telephone to ask you to withdraw money from your bank account, or to transfer funds into other bank accounts. This warning comes after we have had two reports of this kind of fraud in our area this week.
One victim from Letcombe Regis, near Wantage was called by someone claiming to be a Police Officer from Hemel Hempstead Police station. He told the victim that he needed to contact his bank due to fraudulent activity on accounts at his branch and that a staff member could potentially be feeding counterfeit notes into the bank system. The Police Officer encouraged him to hang up and ring the bank. However, the fraudster did not hang up and therefore the line was kept open and he then pretended to be a member of staff from the bank, who confirmed that fraudulent activity was taking place on the account. The victim was then asked to go to the bank and withdraw £6,200 so it could be checked for counterfeit notes. The victim took out the money pretending it was for building work (as advised by the fraudster) and took it home. A courier then arrived to take the money away to be checked.
Another victim from Henley was contacted again by a Police Officer saying their bank card had been cloned and she needed to take £2,000 out of her account. Fortunately the victim did not give any bank card details.
These are scams and we advise residents to HANG UP and report to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040. Alternatively you can visit www.actionfraud.police.uk. The victims are usually elderly so please share this message with elderly family and neighbours to help them avoid becoming victims of crime.
Did you know?................
An Uffington resident raised a query about abnormal loads passing through the village recently; a tractor driver had to stop at several points so he could get a parked car moved out of his way. When questioned whether perhaps his trailer was too wide to come through the village he said that it was 3.5 m wide and was legal. The Police response was: 'I just wanted to reply to offer some clarity on the matter. For agricultural vehicles, Trailers up to 3.5M would normally require 24 hour notice of movement to the local police force however we have dispensed with this requirement in Thames Valley Police, due to having such a large rural community.' So the message is – please always park considerately, thinking of residents and passing traffic.
Road safety on the B 4507
Sparsholt & Westcot Parish Council are organising a meeting to discuss road safety on the B4507, on Wednesday, 29th November 2017 at 7.30pm, Griffin Memorial Hall, Sparsholt, OX12 9PT.
No agenda - just the one question: 'What can we do to make the B4507 safer?' All welcome. No member of Uffington Parish Council is able to attend, so if anybody from Uffington goes, any feedback would be helpful.

OCC (School Admissions) is trying to reach as many parents as possible to ensure that applications for admission to school in September 2018 are made on time. Uffington Farmers Market
A last reminder about the Uffington Farmers Christmas Market (number 1) this Sunday 19th Nov from 10 am to 12.30 pm at the village hall. Please support the village market. Sadly, after two really good years, customer numbers have dwindled this year and we will lose the stallholders if the local community does not continue to support it. I hope to see lots of familiar faces there on Sunday and thank you to all those who do support the market.

Thames Valley Police launches firearms surrender
The surrender runs from 13/11 until Sunday 26/11 and is part of a national initiative run by the National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NABIS). It aims to reduce the number of illegally held firearms within our communities. Each firearm handed into us is one less that could fall into the hands of criminals. Whether it is an old family heirloom that has been stored away for years, a former military weapon or an unwanted firearm which was previously legally owned - all can be handed in to your local police station, safe in the knowledge that they will be disposed of safely. We will also accept replica firearms, air weapons, BB guns, imitation firearms, antique guns, component parts and other ballistic items.
During the fortnight firearms licence holders are also being encouraged to consider the surrender of weapons they no longer have any use for. We are asking anyone who is unsure about an item they have to call us on 101 to get advice on what they should do. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. The first Uffington Christmas Market will be on Sunday 19th November from 10 am to 12.30 pm at the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, Uffington. There will be a whole host of local food and craft stalls selling a huge range of delicious Christmas fayre and present ideas. Orders can be placed with stallholders for collection at the second Christmas market on Sunday 17th December or delivery/collection beforehand. There will also be several local charities and community groups raising much needed funds and promoting their work so please support them.
We really hope that the local community will support the market as we approach the end of our third year.
Oxfordshire Housing Survey 2107
OCC is currently carrying out a short, census style survey of households occupying homes that were built in Oxfordshire within the last ten years. The survey asks questions about the characteristics of those moving to new homes in the county and the type of homes they have moved to. This information will provide the local authorities of Oxfordshire with up to date evidence about the type of infrastructure and services that will be needed to support further housing growth in the county and will assist them in their negotiations with developers about funding. Survey forms were sent out to most new households at the beginning of October, with a deadline for the return of completed forms of Friday 17th November. Vale Community Unsung Hero's Awards
The Chairman's Annual Community Awards Lunch took place at The Beacon in Wantage on Saturday 4 November. The awards are for any person in the Vale area who has made a significant achievement in their chosen field, but is not paid for it. This year's Unsung Heroes from Uffington were: - Karen Pilcher, for her work as Curator of the Tom Brown's School Museum, and taking the lead for the Parish Council on the Public Art project and improvements to the children's playground.
- Verity and Dave Cavanagh for their work in improving footpaths around the village.
- Ed Preece, for his work as Chairman of Uffington White Horse Show Committee from 2014.
The Parish Council would like to congratulate all of them for their awards, and also to thank all those who work on behalf of the community, in so many ways.

Road closure at Woolstone, Marsh Way.
A request has been received from Thames Water for a temporary road closure to apply to a section of Marsh Way, whilst essential carriageway reinstatement works are carried out, on 19 December 2017 for one day (07:00 – 15:30). A temporary Notice is being made to implement the temporary closure. Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and for those frontages within the closure area, subject to the progress of the works and liaison with the works supervisor.
Suggested alternative route: Woolstone Road – Claypit Lane – Marsh Way – Vice Versa.
