January Uffington First Wed Walk CANCELLED
Hi Everyone, Hope you have all had a good Christmas. This is to let you know we have reluctantly decided, especially given the current situation, that it would be sensible to cancel the January walk. Look forward to seeing you all in February, when plans are afoot to hopefully do a walk near Coleshill on Wed 2nd February. We will confirm details a week in advance. Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year for 2022.

Burglary Witness Appeal. Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses with regards to a break in at Mellors Garage, Faringdon Road in East Challow, Wantage.
A confirmed intruder alarm activated at 22:02hrs on 28th December where a green Subaru is seen to reverse onto the forecourt where 4 males get out and force entry to the front door. Reportedly £10,000 worth of cigarettes were stolen and an unknown quantity of beer and red bull. If you have seen anything or have any information regarding this incident, please contact 101 and quote the reference 43200034203 or message us through TV Alerts.

Road closures. Some forthcoming road closures have been notified, on behalf of Airband for cable works: - 17 to 31 January, 0800 to 1700 daily, on Claypit Lane, from the railway bridge to the Woolstone road junction outside Uffington. The suggested alternative route for traffic is via the unnamed road, Knighton, Knighton Hill, B4507, unnamed Road, Marsh Way, Woolstone Road and vice versa.
- 24 to 28 January, 0800 to 1700 daily, on the B4507 from Kingston Lisle/Blowing Stone Hill to Westcot. The suggested alternative route is via B4507 to Ashbury, B4000 to Lambourn, Wantage Road, B4001, B4507 and vice versa.

Cancellation of Uffington Crib Service. Owing to the current high levels of the Omicron virus, and the extreme difficulty of distancing at our Crib service, which was planned for 3pm on Christmas Eve, it is with great regret that we have decided to cancel it this year.
Our Christmas Day service will be going ahead at 10am and will be family friendly. There is also a service at 9am in Baulking and 10.15am in Shellingford.
Christmas Eve Service Baulking 6pm. At present we are going ahead with a small service, it will be socially distanced at 6pm. Please email me hilarydeakin@me.com for availability of places which will be strictly limited. If circumstances change for the worse it may be cancelled. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Save the date: 'Caring for The White Horse – 3,000 years of a British icon'
The Uffington Museum Trustees are delighted to announce that David Miles will make a presentation at 6.30 pm on Monday 24 January 2022 in the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, Uffington on: 'Caring for The White Horse – 3,000 years of a British icon'. The hall will open at 6.00pm.
David was formerly Director of Oxford Archaeology and the Chief Archaeologist of English Heritage. He is the author of The Land of the White Horse and knows a huge amount about our local area.
Because of Covid restrictions, which may well change before 24 January, numbers attending are restricted to 60, so please book in for the presentation, on a first come first served, no cost, basis, by emailing simon.jenkins@uffington.net and be prepared to wear a mask throughout the presentation.

Uffington. Whilst considerable 'normality' has returned to village life, there may still be some who are still needing to isolate, and/or having trouble accessing basic services such as shopping and collecting prescriptions.
Whilst a few volunteers from the Support Group in the original lockdown have had to withdraw their offer of help due to restarting work or other commitments, the majority are still available to assist. Residents should be aware that anyone who requires assistance should contact their original local volunteer, Mike Oldnall on 820369 or Simon Jenkins on 820776, or the Parish Council at uffingtonpc.clerk@gmail.com

Kanda Bongo Man, Wednesday 22nd December, Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall.
The Wednesday before Christmas will see the somewhat delayed return of the very wonderful Kanda Bongo Man to Uffington. Kanda is a worldwide star and has popularised soukous music from its home in central Africa to the four corners of the globe - if a globe can have four corners! Following the report of illegal coursing / hunting on Wednesday in Britwell Salome area in the Thame Neighbourhood, enquiries are ongoing and extra police units are in the area today. Thames Valley Police please ask that anyone who sees or suspects any rural crime in progress such as night time coursing etc. to call 999 first as this will enable police control to dispatch units at the earliest opportunity.
