Defibrillators
All six defibrillators are now installed and live on South Central Ambulance Service's systems. Don't forget the awareness / training sessions arranged as follows: - Friday 25 January - Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall (large hall) at 7.00 pm
- Saturday 26 January - Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall (large hall) at 2.00 pm
- Tuesday 29 January - Uffington Sports Hall at 7.00 pm
- Wednesday 30 January - Baulking Church at 7.00 pm
- Monday 4 February – Woolstone Church at 7.00 pm
- Monday 11 February - Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall (large hall) at 7.00 pm
- Thursday 14 February - Baulking Church at 7.00 pm
You do not need any training or qualification to use a defibrillator as you just follow the voice instructions, but as many people as possible are encouraged to attend, to find out why they are so important and how they work - You may need to use one in a hurry.
The Village Pantomime
It will soon be time for the village pantomime. As usual there will be a raffle on all three evenings. If anyone could donate a little something for a hamper, it will be greatly appreciated, in order to raise money for the village hall and future productions. In Oxfordshire we have attended over 266 chimney fires in the last three years. Nearly 50% of all chimney fires in Oxfordshire happen during January, February and March. If you enjoy cosying up in front of a log fire, make sure the sparks don't fly at home this winter. Have a cosy home not a fire zone: - Get your chimney swept at least once a year, if you regularly have log fires get it swept more frequently
- If you have a 1st floor fireplace check that it is clear of debris
- Store logs away from the fireplace

Chairman's Charity Golf Day. Cllr Monica Lovatt's funding raising initiatives include a golf day that will take place on Friday 12 April at Drayton Park Golf Club. Tee off time is 10.00 am but participants are invited to arrive from 8.30 am for registration and breakfast. The entry fee is £50 per person (£40 for members of Drayton Park Golf Club) and includes breakfast and lunch. This is your final chance to comment on the Plan before it goes to the Independent Examiner. Our White Horse Show Needs Help Managing The Trade Stands
We need help. The White Horse Show has raised many thousands of pounds (just see above!) over the years and has supported numerous causes and activities in the parishes of Uffington, Baulking and Woolstone. The show is staged by a group of volunteers who form an organising committee. Things run well, but with the natural turnover of people we now no longer have anyone to look after the trade stands.
The traders occupy the large marquee tent and provide a good income for the show. Looking after the traders involves handling bookings (which will come in through our new website), liaising with the traders as required before the event and making sure things run smoothly during the show. Can you help us out here?
We meet monthly as a committee and very much in an informal sense, organise, plan and then stage the show. We are a diverse and friendly bunch. Please do give me a call if you are interested on 07742 558413.

Winter Warmer Lunches
Our next lunch will be on Tuesday 22nd January from 12.30 - 2.00 pm in the village hall. Everyone is welcome - there will be a choice of soups, a chicken and leek casserole and good company. Donations towards our expenses are all that we ask, with any excess being donated to Uffington School PTA.

Uffington Sewage System
Thames Water have been called out a few times in the last couple of months to deal with blockages in the drains along White Horse; these blockages are usually caused by people flushing wet wipes. Please do not flush wet wipes.
Fundraising Evening Noise - Saturday 12 January
Thank you so much to everyone who attended the Uffington Winter Festival Fundraiser on Saturday the 12th January. It was a successful evening and we raised lots of money for charity. I would like to sincerely apologise to any residents near the hall who were disturbed by noise.
One of the musicians who performed on the night has lost his bag which includes his laptop and thesis. Due to the seriousness of this we were forced to stay at the hall past our booking time to check if it could be found. If anyone has any information about the missing backpack please do get in touch at dewiltona@gmail.com In particular the thesis is of tremendous personal value so if found please return it to Rose in the shop and she will let us know.

Village news 11 January 2019 Uffington Bellringers
Uffington Bellringers are changing their practice night from Tuesday to Monday evenings for January, February and March. The time remains 7:30 - 9:00 pm and anyone who can ring or wants to see what we do is most welcome to join us. We meet by the church gate at 7:30. Bell ringing is an activity that is not very hard work, it takes more effort to climb the steps up the tower than ring the bells all evening. It is social and slightly brain stretching. If the East Pointer are touring the UK then that means they are back in Uffington. Most of you know how good they are and looking at last year it is clear the rest of the World is realizing that as well.
They are always welcome in their second home in Uffington. Another dose of infectious jigs and reels mixed with their own fantastic songs make them a hit. As a special bonus they will be joined by their fellow Canadians HARROW FAIR who are in the UK preforming at the Americanafestin London. They will provide a mix of old time blues and gritty songs to make it a night NOT to forget.

Bridge Afternoon
An afternoon of friendly rubber bridge with a really good tea will be held on Tuesday 12 February, 2 - 5 pm, £12.50 per person, at the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall in aid of all our 4 old Churches. Please come if you're a bridge player (and bring some friends) - all offers of help and contributions towards the tea are greatly appreciated.

Defibrillators
We are pleased to report that installation of the cabinets to house the defibrillators is now well under way, starting with the telephone boxes in Uffington and Baulking. When the defibrillators have been installed, tested, registered with the Ambulance Service and are available for use, I will notify residents via an e-mail and a notice on the Parish Council notice board.

Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship Recruitment Event: PCDA, DHEP & PCSO
Early 2019 will see TVP introduce new entry routes into policing including the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) and the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP). Policing increasingly requires its staff to think critically, exercise judgement, challenge accepted norms, make decisions independently and communicate confidently. These new entry routes will help develop these vital competencies in new officers, equipping them with the skills and understanding of areas critical for policing in the modern era including cybercrime and dealing with vulnerable people.
TVP will be opening recruitment for the new pathways into policing in early 2019 – come along to one of our recruitment information events to find out more and speak to serving officers and PCSOs about what their roles entail. Members of the recruitment team will also be on hand to advise on the recruitment and selection process. Prior booking is required to secure your place. The events are free of charge.
Alert - Fake TV Licensing Emails
Action Fraud has received more than 5,000 reports about fake emails and texts purporting to be from TV Licensing. The messages contain links to genuine-looking websites that are designed to steal personal and financial information. Always question unsolicited requests for your personal or financial information in case it's a scam. Never automatically click on a link in an unexpected email or text.

Alert - HM Revenue and Customs
Action Fraud has experienced an increase in the reporting of malicious calls, voicemails, text messages or emails to members of the public purporting to be from HMRC. The fraudsters state that as a result of their non-payment of tax or other duty, the victim is liable to prosecution or other legal proceedings such as repossession of belongings to settle the balance but can avoid this by arranging for payment to be made immediately by method such as bank transfer or by iTunes gift cards. If the victim is hesitant or refuses to comply, the suspect makes a threat such as immediate arrest, bailiffs or in cases where the victim appears to be of overseas origin; deportation. Often, the period for which the tax is allegedly due is distant enough to guarantee the victim will have little, if any, paperwork or ability to verify the claims. Once the money is paid the suspects sever all contact. It is vital that the public exercise caution when receiving messages or telephone calls of this nature.
What you need to do
Always question unsolicited requests for your personal or financial information. Just because someone knows your basic details (such as your name and contact details), it doesn't mean they are genuine. Instead, contact the company directly using trusted methods such as a known email address or phone number.- Listen to your instincts. If something feels wrong then it is usually right to question it. No genuine organisation will ask you to pay taxes, bills or fees using iTunes Gift Cards, or any other type of voucher.
- Don't be rushed or pressured into making a decision. Under no circumstances would a genuine bank or some other trusted organisation force you to make a financial transaction on the spot.
- Report Phishing attempts. If you receive a call, text or email of this nature and have not lost money, report this as a phishing attempt to Action Fraud at: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/report-phishing
