Jubilee Field Tidy – TOMORROW!
The next Jubilee Field Tidy is planned for tomorrow (or Sunday if postponed due to bad weather) 26/27th October from 10am - midday(ish). This is our opportunity to tidy up the Field before the winter and all, including supervised children, are welcome to come along to help – there is plenty that needs doing. This is the start of half term for many families, so we hope you will be able to spare a couple of hours to help – possibly as a family!
The main tasks to be done are strimming various areas so if you have a strimmer and can bring it along that would be a great help. We also still have a pile of chippings to distribute along the paths around the pond so a wheelbarrow, spades and rakes will be needed. Please also bring shears, rakes and any other hand tools you think may be necessary to help clear the areas and cut back any excess vegetation. If it is dry enough, we hope to be able to have a bonfire to burn the fallen twigs etc. The only other equipment needed is wellies and tough gloves given the brambles and recent wet weather! Roadside Litter Pick – 2/3 November
The Autumn roadside litter pick will take place over the weekend 2/3 November. Equipment (hi-vis vests, poly bags and litter pickers/tongs) will be available from the Village Hall car park by the clothes recycling bins. Maps showing the routes and detailed instructions will be posted on the Hall window by the front door. Please sign up so we, and others, know which routes have been taken.

Courier Winter 2024 Edition
The Winter 2024 Courier will be the 200th edition after 50 years of publication! Giles, the editor, will be looking for a wide range of articles to celebrate this occasion. Defibrillator - Awareness Training. Thursday 31 October at 7.30 pm. It is some years since our defibrillators were installed in Uffington, Baulking and Woolstone; memories fade and many new residents have moved in, in that time. Tory and Bob Russ have kindly volunteered to offer refresher awareness training on defibrillators at 7.30 pm on Thursday 31 October in the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall. Defibrillators can be life-saving and if somebody has a sudden heart problem, it may be too late to learn! So, take advantage of this free training, which will be open to all residents of the UBW villages. Leaving space for deliveries.
With winter approaching many of our residents will be expecting fuel deliveries. Please do not park vehicles which could block access to deliveries and emergency services, particularly in the various cul de sacs. The Parish Council has been made aware of at least 2 failed recent deliveries caused by residents' parking.

Farmers Market. This Sunday from 10.00 am. The Community Garden stall at the farmer's market will once again be doing apple pressing this Sunday – Please bring along lots of your apples to be pressed.
White Horse WI - Wednesday 23rd October. Our next meeting is on Wednesday 23rd October at 7.30pm in the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, Uffington when we will be joined by Image Consultant Jo Joynes, who is going to talk to us and share ideas about 'Colour with Confidence'. Serving Up Table Tennis in 2025. Table tennis is coming to Uffington village hall in January! We are currently putting together a start-up club - providing a friendly atmosphere and guaranteed fun for all levels and ages (10 and upwards). There's guidance for beginners too.
A great fitness activity for all ages, during those dark winter evenings - Tuesday evenings, two tables for pairs and singles play, all equipment provided. More details in December…watch out for posters and news feeds. A great way of keeping fit, and making new local friends. Interested? text me on 07799 525453 (parents please to reply for under 18's).

Council Meeting – Public Forum. Starting with the October 2024 meeting, (Monday 14th), the Public Forum will be brought forward to 6:45pm.

Autumn Roadside Litter Pick – 2/3 November. The autumn Roadside Litter Pick will take place on Saturday and Sunday 2nd /3rd November. The usual routes around Uffington will be published nearer the date and we are hoping to get a good turnout of volunteers. Each route takes about 1½hrs. Rubbish sacks, hi-vis vests and litter pickers will be available but you will need your own gloves and wellies.

13 October. Harvest Festival in Uffington this Sunday at 10am. All are welcome, and any tinned or dry produce (pasta, rice, cereal etc) people bring will be sent to Faringdon or Wantage Foodbanks.
Walk Talk Walk (Uffington) – Wednesday 16 October 1 - 2pm and Wednesday 4 December 1 - 2pm. Friendly, accessible to all walk, community walk. Meet at Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, to leave at 1.00 pm. Everyone welcome. Tea/coffee etc in the hall at VCI Pop-Up Cafe to finish.
This walk has been organised by White Horse Medical Practice and will be led and supported by our volunteers. (Apologies that the original notice about these walks had the correct dates, but the wrong days of the week – both are on Wednesdays.)

GENERAL
White Horse Show Trust – Awards. The White Horse Show Trust is very pleased to announce that we have recently made 2 grants in support of local organizations: - A grant of £1,000 has been made to the newly formed Table Tennis Club to purchase equipment. The Club will be meeting on Tuesday evenings in the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall from January.
- Additionally, a grant of £450 has been made to the Uffington Primary School. This grant will be supplemented by monies raised by the school children for the purchase of science equipment.
If you are, or represent, a community service, club or similar within Uffington, Baulking, Kingston Lisle or Woolstone you might be eligible to apply to the Trust for funding. Details can be found on the White Horse Show page of the Uffington Parish Council (www.uffington.net) web site.
The Trustees and Organising Committee of the White Horse Show are very grateful to all the volunteers who helped to make the Show a great success. The accounts for the Show are still being finalised and we will be announcing the detail of the profit made shortly.

Launch of Go Drive: A road safety program for young drivers. Go Drive, an innovative road safety education program, is set to transform how young drivers learn to stay safe on the road. - Designed to replace the long-standing Safe Drive Stay Alive initiative, Go Drive uses behavioural science to create an engaging one-hour session, featuring a 50-minute film and four interactive tasks.
- Created through collaboration between road safety organisations and partners across the southeast, Go Drive aims to reduce road accidents among young drivers by fostering safer driving attitudes and behaviour.
- Academic research shows those that take part in Go Drive demonstrate significant improvements in the understanding of road risks, including driving while fatigued and the dangers of peer influence.
- Go Drive is easy to deliver within schools, colleges, and community groups, making road safety education accessible to a wider audience. The session requires minimal setup and uses interactive discussions to engage students directly.
