Uffington First Wed Walk 5th June 2019
Dave has created a Downs Walk for us. We will meet at Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall car park at 9.30. From here we will car share to the National Trust car park on White Horse Hill. It would be great if those who are National Trust members could bring their cars to save on parking costs.
From the car park we will walk the Downs south to Knighton Bushes then back along the Lambourn Valley Way. 5 Miles. Weather is looking promising sunshine, thin cloud and about 19 degrees - perfect walking weather. Hope to see lots of you there.

Advance warning - Girl Guides Rainbow event on 9 June 2019
This event will take place on Sunday 9 June, using the THMH and the Jubilee Field, between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. Volunteers have been asked to act as car park and road marshals. Towards the end of the day, a fire will be lit on the Jubilee Field, at an agreed spot, using a metal fire pit on legs that will keep it off the ground.

National Armed Forces Day
A reminder that the National Armed Forces Day National Event is coming up in Salisbury over 28th - 30th June. Full details are on the Wiltshire Council website; see: http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/salisbury-afd-latest-news
The main parade is on Saturday in Salisbury city centre commencing around 9:45 with other events in Hudson's Field (just below Old Sarum). Sunday is Veterans and Youth Day, again based in Hudson's Field starting around lunchtime, with a Drumhead Service mid-afternoon.

Scam Warning - Fake Talktalk Emails about a refund. Action Fraud has received over 100 reports recently about fake emails purporting to be from TalkTalk. The emails state that the recipient's TalkTalk account is in credit and that they're owed a refund. The links in the emails lead to malicious websites. Don't click on the links or attachments in suspicious emails, and never respond to messages that ask for your personal or financial details.

Village news 24 May 2019 Anti-social behaviour
There have recently been some instances of anti-social behaviour around the village, including damage to one of the tables placed on the Jubilee Field by the Parish Council for the benefit of all residents. It may also be that a forced entry into the Village Hall has been made. Reports suggest youngsters might be involved. With the summer ahead of us, we would all be the poorer if it is spoilt by a continuation of this sort of behaviour.
Would all parents please make sure their children are aware that these problems have been reported to the Police. Should anybody witness any future occurrences please pass the details, including any names, to Thames Valley Police (dial 101).
Walk from Uffington on 28 May
On Tuesday 28th May the Vale of White Horse Ramblers group is walking from Uffington to Kingston Lisle, and back via Foxcover (5 miles). If you would like to join the walk, for free, you would be very welcome. Just turn up at the THMH car park by 10.30. Any queries to Dave Cavanagh - 01367 820683.

Commemorative poppy-planting ceremony to be held in Woodstock by students of Marlborough C of E School, Woodstock
As part of The Marlborough School WW1 Project, Woodstock Then and Now, the school's art department have been working on an idea which ties in with the centenary of the Treaty of Versailles, in remembrance of the soldiers that fell in the Great War. A group of students have been making poppies which will be 'planted' in the grounds of Oxfordshire County museum, as part of a formal ceremony in conjunction with the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum on 28th June 2019. The poppies will remain on display to the public at the site until 24th July 2019. Village news 17 May 2019 St. Mary's Church Sunday Teas
These popular Teas are served from the 2nd June till the end of September and we try to have four people on duty each Sunday. Tennis Tournament
Uffington Lawn Tennis Club will hold its annual mixed doubles fund-raiser tournament on Sunday 7 July 2019, starting at 1400 hrs. Players will play with multiple partners and the event is open to all villagers, so there is no need to have a partner or to be a tennis club member to enter. The tournament will be held across several tennis courts in the Uffington and Woolstone area and will finish with a final and BBQ at Woolstone Lodge by kind invitation of Anne and Laurence Hollingworth. Non-players are welcome to spectate and attend the supper. The tournament entry fee will be £10.00. The BBQ will be £12.50 for adults, £6 for Under 12s, and £30 for a family ticket. OVO Energy Women's Tour
On 12 June, around 100 elite women cyclists will be making their way through our region. Starting at 10.30 am from Henley, the race will enter our district just after midday in Harwell and leave via Faringdon on their way to the finish line at Blenheim Palace. There will be rolling road closures at these approximate times prior to the race cyclists coming through: - 12.17 pm at Harwell

This is a huge change from what used to be a Conservative controlled Council and may explain the lack of any press release or news alert from the new Council to date, as to what is going on.
White Horse Garden Club - May has arrived = time for the plant sale - Saturday 11th May 2.30 – 4.00 pm.
- Please support the only fund raising event - Bring plants & buy plants.
- Please name and price each plant = 2 labels - one for the plant name, one for the price. (Use indelible ink or pencil please.)
- Pricing - 50p for small plants otherwise £1, £2, £3, etc. Large plants/shrubs should be £4/£5/£6 etc.
- Help on the day would be much appreciated particularly at 1.00 pm to put out the tables and 4.00 pm to put away tables. The hall will be open from 1.00 pm to bring your plants along. Refreshments kindly provided by Chris Higgs.
