THOMAS HUGHES MEMORIAL HALL
Overnight parking in the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall car park. There is a notice at the entrance to the hall car park saying no unauthorised overnight parking.
We have at various times recently, seen vehicles parked for many nights in the car park and without reference to the hall committee. If an owner does not contact the committee to arrange for their vehicle to remain in the car park, it is unlikely we will know who the owner is. This means we need to contact the Police to check the vehicle is not stolen and/or dumped and we do not know who to contact if it is causing an obstruction or has been damaged. Neither the Police nor the DVLC release information on ownership if a vehicle is taxed and is not stolen.
Will owners wishing to park their vehicle overnight for an extended period of time please contact a member of the committee to agree overnight parking and so that the committee knows who to contact if there is a problem. Your support in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
The hall committee does not charge car parking fees but a voluntary donation to the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall to support maintenance costs is always welcome. The committee can be contacted at information.thmh@uffington.net or by phone on 01367 301204.

Wood fired Pizzas in Uffington. SOLELUNA PIZZA 3 will come regularly to Uffington and serve PIZZA at the car park by the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, between 5 and 8 pm. Uffington Weds Walk - 4th February 2026 - Wantage to Steventon. The first of our walks for 2026 will be along another section of The Vale Way. From Wantage to Steventon 5.5 miles (returning by bus) with a coffee break at Ardington.
Importantly the majority of the route will be dry. The final stretch from W. Hendred has 2 stiles and some standing water but not too bad. If you wish to avoid this stretch you could return by catching the X35 bus back from The Hare at West Hendred which runs every 30 mins. The Daoiri Farrell Trio, Friday 27th March, Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, Uffington. Back in 2023 Daoiri played a storming solo show at the church in Baulking and he loved it so it wasn't that difficult to persuade him to come back but this time accompanied by Leonard Barry on pipes and Eddie Kavanagh on bodhran. These are 3 of the finest Irish traditional musicians around at the moment and this is one of only two dates they are doing together on Daoiri's UK tour in March. Daoiri has a worldwide reputation and is described as being " the finest Irish male folk singer-storyteller this side of Christy Moore and Paul Brady" and it is a delight to welcome him back. Flooding. Residents will recall that Thursday 15 January was a very wet day (Storm Goretti); this caused flooding on the Woolstone, Fernham and Fawler Roads, and the discharge of untreated sewage from the Uffington Sewage Works, and from a number of overflowing manholes on the public sewage system, into the Uffington Brook. THAMES VALLEY POLICE
Major operation to fight serious and organised crime across Thames Valley. Thames Valley Police has started the year as it means to go on with a major operation last week across its patch targeting serious and organised criminals. Hundreds of officers and staff came together for the three days of action last week in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire to fight high-value motor vehicle thefts, robberies, business burglaries and other serious crimes.
The days of action enhance our work that goes on every day to tackle serious and organised crime across the Thames Valley, and we continue to collaborate closely with our partners. We know there will always be more to do and we will never stop.

PCC issues fraud safety advice as new service goes live. Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Barber, is reminding residents of the simple steps they can take to protect themselves from fraud and cyber crime following the launch of Report Fraud.
Report Fraud has replaced Action Fraud as the national reporting centre for all incidents of fraud and cyber crime. The PCC's safety advice includes: - Not rushing to act and independently verifying the credentials of any unsolicited or unexpected communication be that a text, email, letter, phone call or in person contact.
- Strengthening online security with strong passwords and turning on two-factor authentication where possible.
- And reporting. Only an estimated 14% of frauds against an individual are reported but reporting any suspicious activity and incidents of fraud can help identify, pursue and prevent scammers from victimising others. Report via Report Fraud online or by calling 0300 123 2040.
If you have been a victim of fraud or cyber crime, support is available. The PCC's Victims First service offers free practical and emotional support for victims of all crimes, including cyber crime and fraud, living in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes. Call 0300 1234 148 for more information or support.
Fraud is the most common crime affecting our communities, with 14,000 residents of Thames Valley reporting a fraud to Thames Valley Police in the last 12 months. Couriers For Oxleaze and Cowleaze Residents. We regret to inform residents of Oxleaze and Cowleaze that we are no longer able to distribute paper copies to your houses. Additional copies will be placed in the shop so residents who would like a paper copy can collect one from the Uffington shop. The Winter edition will be available in the next week or so.

Scouting In Uffington. Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But, we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team, and taking on new challenges. We are looking for new members for our Uffington based groups. - Beavers (age 6 to 8) meet on Tuesday evening
- Cubs (age 8 to 10½) meet on Thursday evening
- Scouts (age 10½ to 14) meet on Thursday evening

Council submits response to Thames Water reservoir consultation. Vale of White Horse District Council has today (13 January 2026) submitted its consultation response on Thames Water's proposed reservoir for the district. You can see details on our website by clicking this link
The council also reaffirmed its objections to the reservoir in a formal letter to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on 17 November 2025. The letter called for urgent action on the controversial plans and in particular concerns about spiralling costs, flawed assumptions, and the failure to properly consider alternative solutions. Cllr Thomas added: "Many questions remain around the size of the proposed scheme, its environmental impact and significant (growing) financial and carbon costs, as well as the potential for increased flood risk in local watercourses.
"We remain opposed to this proposal, and we will continue to urge water providers, regulators and government to listen to local voices and reject these plans. We will continue to do everything we can within our power to ensure that the voice of our community is listened to."

People in Abingdon and neighbouring villages will benefit from a new community repair hub, Shed Space, which offers a space to refurbish bikes and household items as well as opportunities to make new friends and share skills. Anticipated road closures. - Baulking to Kingston Lisle Road, Prohibition of Through Traffic: 16 to 26 January 2026 (weekends). This Order is being introduced because of railway maintenance works which are anticipated to be completed 26 January 2026.This will operate from 2200hrs Friday nights to 0600hrs Monday morning as follows: 16 – 19/01/2026; 23 – 26/01/2026 The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in the length of road that passes beneath the rail bridge. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force.
- Uffington, Claypit Lane, Prohibition of Through Traffic: 3 February to 20 February 2026. This Order is being introduced because of installation of 370 meters of pipe for new water connection which is anticipated to be completed 20 February 2026. This is a 24-hour daily road closure. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in Claypit Lane near Oxleaze Farm. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force.
- Temporary Road Closure at Uffington, 23 to 25 February. A request has been received from SAS Utilities Ltd for a temporary road closure to apply to a length of Unnamed Road running west from Oldlands Copse, whilst essential rectifying defects in carriageway works are carried out.
- Uffington, Broad Street, 18 / 19 March (overnight). To facilitate the resurfacing of the carriageway and subsequent reinstatement of all lines and road markings. Starting on 18 March 2026, the anticipated completion date is 19 March 2026 (date included). This will operate between 20:00 and 06:00.
