Uffington and Baulking Neighbourhood Plan
Dear fellow villagers,
I just wanted to remind you that the referendum for the Uffington and Baulking Neighbourhood Plan will take place next week on Thursday 4 July 2019. You should have received your poll cards now and the polling station in the village hall will be open 07.00-22.00 hrs on the day. Please do vote. This is the final step in a 4 year project and your support will be hugely appreciated and valuable for the villages. If you have opted for a postal vote, again you should have your cards and envelopes now and I encourage you to return them urgently so your vote will meet the deadline and count towards the results. Uffington Wed Walk 3rd July
For our July walk Geoff and Julie Rumble are kindly leading us on a lovely walk from Faringdon with beautiful views of the Thames Valley.
Meeting initially in Uffington Village Hall car park at 9:30 for car sharing. From here we will drive to our meeting place in Faringdon on the corner of London Street and Stanford Road. There is a lay-by for parking on London Street just before the corner. Failing this places can usually be found in Stanford Road.
We will walk along Coach Lane then pick up the footpath East to Littleworth with the Thames valley below us on the left. Onwards past Tagdown Barn, then back via Folly Hill. Weather is looking ideal on the day 18 degrees a light breeze and light cloud. Summer lunches in the THMH
Our Summer Lunches continue every Wednesday from 12.30 - 2.00 pm in the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, until 24th July. Come and enjoy a delicious cold buffet lunch followed by a superb pudding and tea or coffee for just £10! All proceeds to St. Mary's Church.
Britchcombe Farm - The fabulous Mikron theatre
The fabulous Mikron theatre are heading to the tea garden again this summer on Thursday July 11th. The show this year is called Redcoats and is about the life and story of Billy Butlins. Mikron theatre plays are written by themselves, are always extremely funny, very informative with fabulous poignant moments. Redcoats will start at 7.30pm with an interval and it will finish about 9.45 - 10pm.
My tearoom and garden turns into a mini theatre with a bar and food available. We will be serving freshly baked take away pizzas and our Pop Up Burger and Hot dog bar will be open from 5pm. Cream teas, cakes and Ice Creams will also be available together with a licensed bar. Please don't bring your own food into the Tea garden. Thank you.
There will be no undercover so you need to bring along your own chair, blankets and clothes to keep warm and dry. No tickets but there will be as a cash donation collection at the end of the show. Important Changes To Medical Information – Firearm and Shotgun licences
You are now required to provide medical information verified by a GP for all firearm and shotgun applications - this includes renewals. This applies to any application, whether declaring a medical condition or not. The change is being implemented to enable the Police to make informed decisions which will protect both the shooting community and the wider public. PRESS RELEASE: The next steps for Vale's Local Plan
Councillors at the Vale of White Horse will soon have a chance to consider Part 2 of the district's Local Plan and will vote on the adoption of the plan in the autumn. The council fully adopted Part 1 of the plan in 2016, which contains the main strategic sites for housing and employment development in the district, along with the main policies.
Part 2 of the plan deals with more detailed policies and allocates sites for housing to help the city of Oxford meet its need for housing. The government's planning inspector examining Part 2 of the plan has released his report, which concludes that the plan is "sound" and could be adopted subject to local democratic approval.
Cllr Emily Smith, Leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, said: "I think I can speak for most councillors to say that we're very keen to make sure we all fully understand Part 2 of the Local Plan, and the implications for the district of adopting it or otherwise before we vote on it. Everybody wants what's best for the Vale and its residents and businesses, and there are lots of things to weigh up."

Uffington and Baulking Neighbourhood Plan
Don't forget that the Referendum on the Uffington and Baulking Neighbourhood Plan will take place on Thursday 4 July, at the Uffington polling station. The NP Steering Group urges all residents to complete the project with their vote on 4 July.
Application to rectify the Common Land Register at Pond House, Uffington, Oxon
The application to rectify the Common Land Register at Pond House, Uffington under the Commons Act 2006 has clearly caused concern amongst residents. It is a complicated matter which will be decided as a matter of law, and any responses should be made to Oxfordshire County Council by 15 July. The Parish Council is currently considering the position and gathering its own information which will be forwarded to OCC in due course; we have noted the strength of feeling expressed at the Council meeting on 10 June.
The applicants are engaged in a legitimate legal process. They respect the right of anyone to object to the application, which, with any comments or objections, will be considered on legal merit. Sadly, it has been reported that ignorant and malicious gossip is being circulated about those who have made the application. When discussing the issues, please remember that any gossip of this nature has the potential to be very upsetting for a family which has been extremely supportive of the village and its activities for very many years.
Tom Brown's School Museum
A reminder that Tom Brown's School Museum in Uffington is open this weekend from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm with FREE entry. This year's exhibition is Uffington 50 years ago and they are selling A4 aerial photographs of the village for £5.00 - over 30 different views to choose from.
Why not finish off with home-made cake & tea in the church - served between 3.00 pm & 5.30 pm on Sunday afternoon.

Phone hacking attempts in Uffington. Be aware that a number of people have received telephone calls recently, purporting to be from BT on an 01367 number, stating your BT Internet account is to be closed because it has been hacked, and for further information, press 1. The advice is to put the telephone down quickly and notify the Police on 101.

Councils are asking drivers to 'Turn it off' if they are stopped for a minute or more
Just one minute of sitting with your car engine running and the vehicle not moving produces the equivalent of 150 balloons of harmful pollutants into the air. This is why South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils have launched a joint campaign to help improve air quality across southern Oxfordshire. The campaign called 'Turn it Off' - www.southandvale.gov.uk/turnitoff - which has been endorsed by Public Health England - is aimed at drivers who leave their engines 'idling' - still running even when the vehicle is not moving. This often happens when a vehicle is parked but the driver is still inside, waiting for someone outside a school or a shop.
There will be awareness events across both districts. Air pollution has been identified by a number of organisations including the World Health Organisation, United Nations and the Royal College of Physicians as the biggest environmental risk to health. A recent report from Public Health England estimated that within the UK, air pollution is linked to up to 36,000 deaths each year. Older people and children are most sensitive to air pollutants. Keeping the engine running while parked contributes to an increase of air pollutant levels. Schools, traffic lights and bus stops are most likely locations for idling.
The councils' new campaign 'Turn it off' aims to educate people about air pollution and the links to engine idling and promoting cleaner ways to drive, as follows:
- Switch off when the car is likely to be stopped for more than 1 minute
- 1 minute of idling produces twice as many emissions as a moving vehicle
- 1 minute of idling produces the equivalent of 150 balloons of harmful pollutants
- Excessive idling is a waste of fuel (and money)
- People inside cars are exposed to high levels of air pollution, with children especially at risk of harmful effects

Village news 14 June 2019 Parish Council meeting on Monday 10 June
The Parish Council was very pleased (and, it must be said, quite surprised!) to see over 70 people at the monthly meeting on Monday. Before getting into the main reason for this attendance, two important points were made for the attention of all those who walk through fields belonging to our local farmers: - Dogs should be kept on leads on footpaths through fields housing livestock. If sheep are chased by a dog, the owner of the sheep has the right to shoot the dog. If cattle threaten you with a dog on the lead, let the dog go – the cattle will probably be more interested in the dog than its owner!
- Please always pick up and dispose of dog poo responsibly – in a bin, and never to be left dangling in a hedge. This includes when going through pastures; dog faeces contain Neospora. Neospora is a protozoan parasite (i.e. a microscopic, unicellular parasite organism) that can invade, live and multiply inside animal cells. It is one of the most frequently diagnosed infectious causes of abortion in cattle worldwide.

With regard to the item about thefts from cars, a handbag was recently removed from a car at Stanford tip, whilst the owner was unloading from the boot. There is no evidence that anybody employed at the tip was involved – the message is: Keep an eye on it, or lock it up!
