Dear Uffington Wed Walkers
A Happy New Year to you all, hope you have a wonderful time. Hope after the seasonal fare of Christmas you will be ready for some exercise in the fresh air. Our first walk of the year will be on Wednesday 3rd January.
Meeting at 9.30 at Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall car park in Uffington. We will head up to the Ridgeway via Britchcombe Farm, along the Ridgeway and then down via either Woolstone or Dragon Hill, to be decided on the day.

The new slide is now open for business, to complement the climbing frame and roundabout.
Parents beware: the area around the new slide is muddy; it will dry off when the weather does, and we will investigate either re-seeding or re-turfing when spring approaches.

Local Plan update
Thanks to all of you who commented on the publication version of our Local Plan 2031 Part 2. Consultation finished at the end of November and we're now processing all of the comments received. The Plan will be submitted to the government for independent examination, along with all the supporting evidence and comments, in early 2018 and public hearings will take place following this, in the district.
See our website for more information and look out for further details about the public examination in the new year. Part One of the plan was adopted in December 2016.
How to report fly tipping
If you witness fly tipping or see rubbish dumped where it should not be, please report it by calling 03000 610610. We investigate all reports of fly tipping made to us and will take action against offenders where there is evidence.

A pile of good quality topsoil is accumulating on the edge of the village hall car park, from the installation of the new slide in the playground. If anybody would like some – it's available on a first come first served basis.

If you're a garden waste customer... We'll come and collect it on your first brown bin collection after Christmas, from Tuesday 9 January - just put it out next to your brown bin. Please don't put it in the bin as it's often difficult for the crews to get out.

Farmers Market
Just a reminder that the last Uffington Farmers Market of 2017 will take place this Sunday 17th December 2017 from 10am. Featuring a whole host of bespoke handmade gifts and delicious christmassy edible treats. The Scouts, Beavers and Cubs have also arranged for Father Christmas to pay us a visit. The market will be indoors and the lovely community cafe will be serving their scrumptious cakes and warm drinks. We really hope to see you there. Thank you and Happy Christmas to you all.
Community Café
Sadly, there will not be a Café on Saturday. Fear not though, we will be at the Christmas Farmers Market on Sunday with our last Café of 2017. Open from 10am till 12.30pm, there will be plenty of Bacon Baps, Homemade Soup, Hot drinks and of course, CAKE!!! Thank you to everyone that has supported me through the year.

Village Christmas Tree
Carols around the tree with the Wantage Silver Band will be on Wednesday December 20th at 7pm, at Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall. Come and enjoy the singing, with mulled wine and mince pies.
Another scam
A resident of Uffington has reported: 'We received a telephone call on 13 December, allegedly from HMRC stating that 'HMRC is taking out a lawsuit against you' or words to that effect ... ' and for more information ring this number 01618 507883'. We put the phone down anticipating that it was a scam and rang our accountants who deal with our tax affairs and we were told it was indeed a scam.' The call has been reported it to Thames Valley Police.
Improvements to Parish Facilities
The Parish Council is pleased to let all residents know that we hope to see the completion next week of two projects funded by the S106 contributions to the Parish from the Jacksmeadow development. The agreement states that these funds should be used towards community facilities in the Parish.
Speeding on the Fawler Road is an issue. On Monday 18 December, a vehicle activated sign (VAS) will be installed on Fawler Road, about 150m inside the 30 mph limit. These signs light up when vehicles approach at speeds in excess of 30 mph, to remind speeding drivers that they should slow down.
In the children's playground the new slide will be installed on Tuesday 19 December. In anticipation of this, the old wooden structure will be removed on Monday 18 December. Sections of the play area may be closed by the contractors during this period for safety reasons.
The above dates may be subject to change on account of bad weather.
