| Drainage Issues in Uffington

The response from Thames Water to the three main questions that came up during the meeting is: - Concerns about possible network pinch-point at 5 White Horse, Uffington. Our network team have said that they are not aware of any pinch points in the network that could be causing any problems. If this issue returns, could you please see if it can be reported each time to us on 0800 316 9800.
- Question of whether or not we have flow meter at Uffington STW inlet works to understand the amount of flow going into the site. We have flow meters both at the inlet and at the outfall from the site. This allows us to see (in real time at 15 minute intervals) how the site is performing and whether there are any issues. What we have seen in the past is a suggestion that during major storm events or when ground water levels are exceptionally high, there may be more flow in the sewers than the inlet on the works can cope with. This could possibly be the cause the issue reported near 5 Whitehorse. Again if this happens again please let us know.
- Question of whether or not there is a single point of repeat blockages. There is no single point where there is a trend for more blockages than anywhere else.

Friends of the Ridgeway Vale of White Horse Group meeting
Over the autumn and winter, the Friends of the Ridgeway Vale Of The White Horse Local Group will be holding a series of meetings with talks as in previous years. The first meeting will on Thursday 20 October 2016 at 7:30 in the Old Town Hall, Faringdon when the talk will be "Old-fashioned farming for conservation: first 5 years at City Farm Eynsham" by Alan Larkman.

Fresh air and exercise! | Zumba Gold – Weekly class from 29 September
After such a great turn out for the exercise trial last week, I am pleased to say that Generation Games are going to run a weekly class starting this Thursday, the 29th of September. Same time 2.00 - 3.00pm in the THMH. Costs £4 and you pay as you go. (First session free for new people).
The teacher is also qualified as a chair based exercise tutor so they are also looking at starting a chair based exercise class the hour before the Zumba. This may suit the ladies who felt Zumba may be a bit energetic. Chair based is a great exercise as you can make it as easy or as hard as you like.

Uffington Wednesday walk 5th October
Our Wednesday Walk for October will be around Lechlade and will be led by Geoff Rumble. We will meet as usual at THMH car park in Uffington at 9:30 where we can arrange car shares. From there we will drive to the Trout Inn (Faringdon Road, Lechlade GL7 3HA).
There are lay-bys either side of St. John' Bridge for parking. If anyone would prefer to meet us there please let me know.
The walk is three and a half miles and includes St. Lawrence Church, Lechlade, the Thames Path and the historic Church of St Paul, Inglesham.
Many thanks to Geoff for working out and leading this walk, if anyone else has a favourite walk they would like to lead please let us know.

Bridge and Footpath closure | Railway bridge
From 1 October, there will be new rail bridge works which are anticipated to take 6 weeks to complete, at the railway bridge on the un-named road from Station Road to Fernham Road. These works are part of the Network Rail Great Western Electrification Project.
The bridge will be closed and the alternative route for vehicles is via Station Road, White Horse, Broad Street, Fernham Road and vice versa.
Footpath 4
Also from 1 October, but for at least 9 months, Footpath 387/4 will be closed. This footpath runs northwards from The Green to the un-named road above at Moor Mill Farm. The footpath is being closed in order for a pedestrian bridge to be constructed across the railway. Notwithstanding the notices which will be displayed, the footpath will only be officially closed at the railway so people will still be able to walk up and back if they so wish, from either side.

Online safety discussion for young people and carers - Thurs 15 September, 6.30pm
Thames Valley Police is inviting young people, parents and carers to take part in a live online discussion with police officers and staff about internet safety and risks affecting young people. The hour-long Q&A session, which is part of a month-long campaign called #ProtectYourWorld – stay safe online, will take place on Thursday 15 September from 6.30pm.

A New Number to Call When the Lights Go Out
A new national phone line has been launched to make it easier to report power cuts in your area and get help and advice. The free-to-dial 105 number was developed by the energy industry to help clear up confusion about who to contact. People can call 105 from most landlines and mobile phones, no matter who they choose to buy electricity from.

Telephone and internet connection problems | There are a number of houses at the Church / Museum end of Uffington which have been experiencing problems with their telephone and internet connections in recent weeks. Problems include crackling on the telephone line and frequent, sometimes prolonged, internet failures. Steve Ikin has suffered badly and has succeeded in reaching BT at a high level.
