Damage to St Mary's Church The noticeboard in St Mary's porch was burnt in two places on last Sunday (21st Oct) or Monday; the board was restored only a few years ago. Police have been informed. We would be grateful if people would remain vigilant about such sad acts of mindless vandalism; if you see anything like this happening anywhere in our communities, please call the Police promptly. Rev. Jeremy Goulston Uffington and Baulking Neighbourhood Plan Following the Neighbourhood Plan 6 week consultation period in May-June, the Plan was updated to reflect many of the comments made. Details of the changes can be found here. The Plan and supporting documents have now been approved by the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, Uffington Parish Council and Baulking Parish Meeting. They were submitted to the Vale of the White Horse District Council on 25 October 2018. The process is then as follows: - Following submission, the VWHDC will review the Plan and then arrange a further 6 week consultation period, during which residents and organisations will be able to comment again if they wish.
- Comments from this consultation will be collated and passed, with the unchanged Plan, to the appointed Examiner.
- The Examiner will consider the Plan and comments and make any recommendations for any changes required prior to holding the Referendum.
- The Referendum will be organised and run in the same manner as local or national elections.
- Subject to a successful outcome of the Referendum (which requires a simple majority vote for it to be carried), the Plan will then become 'made' (adopted).
- The made Plan will then form, along with the Local Plan Parts 1 and 2 (once adopted), part of the overall 'Development Plan' for the District and which will be used to help determine future Planning Applications.

Village news 19 October 2018 Uffington Farmer and Flea Market
After three and a half years it is time for Uffington Farmer and Flea Market to pack up its stall and gazebo for good. Unfortunately due to dwindling customer footfall over the last year it has become increasingly difficult to attract stall holders to attend the market. We have therefore made the difficult decision to call it a day and to close the market. We would like to thank all of the fantastic stall holders and customers who have supported the market over the last three years. We will hold onto many happy memories of great days in the Sunday sunshine.

Tom Brown's School Museum opens for half term

A local crafting group?
Karyn Romeis is putting feelers out to see if there's enough interest to start up a local crafting group. She says: "My idea is to explore a variety of crafts/projects. Initially, we could meet at my house until the group outgrows my space. Sessions would be free to attend unless we bring in a guest facilitator/demonstrator who would be paid. I might also ask for a small donation to cover costs if my materials are used. I'd be happy to provide tea and coffee, and perhaps members could take it in turns to bring biscuits/cake."

Changes To Fac Sgc Certificate - Condition 2
Translating the short hand, this means:- Change to Condition on a Firearm and Shotgun Certificate. Condition 2 - The Firearms (Amendment) Rules 2018, which amends the Firearms Rules 1998, comes into force on 16th October 2018. Holders of a firearm and/or shotgun certificate are required to inform the Chief Officer of Police, by whom the certificate was granted, as soon as reasonably practicable but within 7 days of: - the theft, loss or destruction within Great Britain of the certificate; and
- the theft, loss, deactivation or destruction in Great Britain of any firearm, shotgun or ammunition to which the certificate relates.

Village news 12 October 2018 Ringing for Victory
As part of the celebrations for 100 years after the end of WWI we intend to ring the bells of Uffington Church on the evening of Sunday 11th November. Another batch of crocuses
The Parish Council would like to thank Faringdon Rotary for another batch of crocuses; they have been planted in the grass outside the Tom Brown's School Museum, where they will make a great showing next spring. Thanks also to Karen Pilcher who planted them all.
Footpath 12
If you are looking for a short, level rural stroll that starts in Uffington – and doesn't have stiles – then go along the footpath that starts at Lower Common, at the edge of Jacksmeadow, across pastures to Station Road. The four remaining stiles on the route have been replaced by kissing gates, making it walkable by all. Once at Station Road you can wander around the adjacent wood Uffington Gorse (called Fox Covert locally) before heading back. The parish council obtained most of the cost from Trust for Oxfordshire's Environment (TOE) with funds from Grundon Waste Management, with the balance coming from Section 106 contributions from the new Jacksmeadow housing estate.

The Vale's waste team will be carrying out a 'deep clean' of areas which are the responsibility of the District Council, over the period 23-25 October.

Thames Valley Police Disrupt Drug Activity In South And Vale
Thames Valley Police has conducted a series of activities to disrupt drug activity in Abingdon, Didcot and Wallingford. On Wednesday 26 September and Thursday 27 September the South & Vale Neighbourhood teams conducted a series of activities to combat drug use and drug dealing in the area. Activities included drugs warrants, vehicle checks and multiple searches under the Misuse of Drugs Act, which resulted in the arrests of eight people and the seizure of five vehicles and approximately £27,000 of criminal property and drugs.

Six hate crimes recorded every day in Thames Valley
On 8 October, we launched the latest phase of our Hidden Harm campaign, this time asking everyone to open their eyes to hate crime. A hate crime is any crime committed against a person which is perceived to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards their: - Race
- Religion
- Sexual orientation
- Disability
- Transgender identity
Hate crimes can take place anywhere, even online. They can include threats, intimidation, damage to property and physical attacks. They can have serious long term effects on people – emotionally, physically and financially. Last year at least six hate crimes were recorded every day in Thames Valley. No one should be targeted because of who they are, how they look or what they believe in. If you or someone you know has been a victim of hate crime, or if you have witnessed a hate crime, report it. You can do this by contacting the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency. Or you can contact Victims First on 0300 1234 148 for confidential advice and support. Uffington Village Deep Clean

St Mary's Uffington. - Oxford Welsh Male Voice Choir. A few tickets remain for this concert on Saturday 13th October, which can be obtained from Fay Forster, any PCC member or the Post Office.
- The Harvest service will be held on Sunday 14th October at 10.00 am. We are collecting for Swindon Foodbank for Harvest, and dried food, tins and packets can be put in the box in St. Mary's or at the Post Office.

Events on White Horse Hill
On Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th October, we have some filming taking place next to White Horse Hill. There will be road closures in place for the filming days, and the filming will also involve the use of a helicopter and drone. Please contact Uffington Parish Council if you need details of the road closures.
Secondly on Sunday 11th November at 7pm we will be lighting a beacon as part of the 1000 National Beacons lit in commemoration of the end of WWI. It will be a short event, with a reading, two minutes silence, the last post and the lighting of the Beacon.
