Jubilee Field Spring Tidy. Many thanks to all those who turned out for the Jubilee Field Spring Tidy last Saturday; a lot was achieved, including a good bonfire.
Particular thanks are due to Jo Clark and 'Future Trees Trust' Home - futuretrees.org which donated 100 beech hedging plants, all of which were planted on the Upper Common verge, to get the restoration of the pond area off to a good start. Uffington Wed Walk 3 April - Lambourn Downs. National Trust Car Park - Lambourn Downs. As the rain has refused to go away April's walk will be heading for the high ground again. Meeting in Uffington Village Hall car park at 9:20 for a 9:30 start and car sharing up to the National Trust Car Park on White Horse Hill. (Unless you would rather meet up there). From the car park the walk will head west along the Ridgeway towards Waylands Smithy then detour to the south. Wesley Stace may well be the best singer / songwriter you have never heard of! Resident in the USA since the early 1990s, he's been joined on stage by Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and John Prine and his songs have been sung by Roseanne Cash, Graham Parker and the wonderful Wreckless Eric. This will be part of his first UK tour in 15 years. His live shows are always worth catching: expect an evening of not only great songs, but also a healthy serving of razor sharp wit and wisdom. GENERAL
Children's Air Ambulance Clothing Bins. The Children's Air Ambulance would like to apologise for the recent delay in emptying our two clothing bins in the Memorial Hall car park. This was the result of a temporary shortage of volunteer drivers who collect the clothing. To avoid future unsightly piles of clothing next to the bins, please note. Firstly, one of the bins was not full but was jammed by someone trying to force a large bag into the mouth of the bin. Secondly, leaving donations of bags of clothing outside the bins does not help the charity if it rains. The clothing becomes unusable and rather than a donation, it creates added work for the volunteers who have to sort and dispose of the wet clothing. If you see anyone planning to leave clothing outside the bins when full, please explain they are not helping the charity and suggest they take the bags home and come back another day when the bins have been emptied. Finally, please restrict your donations to those listed on the bins. Pillows and Duvets are of no value to the charity and non-clothing items such as books and other household items that are being found in the bins are certainly not helpful.

- The B4000 Shrivenham / Ashbury, will be closed from 17 to 19 April, 0500 to 1800 hrs, to facilitate surface seal installation works. Suggested alternative route: via Townsend Road, A420, A417, B4001, B4507 and vice versa.

Sunday 24 March - Palm Sunday Walk from Baulking to Uffington. Meet at Baulking Church at 9am (no butties this year). Walk to along the road into Uffington, meeting Beatrice the donkey at Fox Cover. The Walk finishes with a Family Service in St Mary's at 10am. You are most welcome to join us at Baulking, on the edge of Uffington, or at the Church for the service.
White Horse WI - 27 March. Our next meeting is on Wednesday 27th March at 7.30pm. This month our guest speaker is Andy Kempe who will be joining us for a talk on the Curious Case of the Commons. Andy will tell us all about the history of Greenham Common through the years. We will also be holding our very first annual general meeting between 7.30-8.00pm so please do come along!

Lambourn Open Day - cancelled. Unfortunately, the Lambourn Open Day on Good Friday (29th March) has had to be cancelled because of the exceptionally wet ground. Over 22,000 email and social media accounts hacked. Data from Action Fraud, the national fraud and cybercrime reporting service, shows that 22,530 people reported that their online accounts had been hacked in 2023, with victims losing a total of £1.3 million.

Appeal for witnesses following serious injury collision – Dorchester-on-Thames. We are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury collision in Dorchester-on-Thames. At around 6.15pm on Monday (18/3) a collision happened on the A4074, between a red Triumph motorcycle and a red Volkswagen Golf. The collision happened between the Berinsfield and Burcot roundabouts.
The rider of the motorcyclist, a man in his twenties suffered serious injuries. He remains in hospital in a stable condition. The driver, a man in his late teens, suffered minor injuries. No arrests have been made. We are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward as well as anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the incident.

The Council hopes that it will be helpful to residents to have timely information on planning applications affecting the village included in this newsletter. GENERAL
This is a message for all who may be involved with bookings for the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall. The Management Committee decided at the AGM to increase hire charges by an average of 5%, to offset the inflationary costs of running the building. Community rates are also increasing by an average of 5% and are available in the village shop or from me. We also have two organisations that book the building for a period of several consecutive days and have negotiated rates. These will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Please note - If you already have a booking for later in the year, you will be charged at the current rate if paid before April 1st but payments made after this date will be charged at the higher rates. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Uffington Community Garden – cake raffle. On 1st March, we were fortunate enough to be asked to hold the Cake Raffle for the 'Spiers and Boden' concert at the village hall - all proceeds for Uffington Community Garden. What a SUPER evening it was in every way! Many thanks to George for arranging it, Bob and Vicky and all the other helpers, behind the scenes. Everyone had a great time!
We had a total of 6 delicious cakes to raffle - including chocolate, coffee/walnut, banana, fruit, Victoria sponge and carrot cake (that was actually made with parsnips from the community garden!) So many thanks to all the generous volunteer bakers. The cakes looked wonderful and reports say - tasted pretty good too! On the night we raised £223 altogether. This money will go towards the upkeep of the community garden for the benefit of all. We are very grateful.
Uffington Community Garden is a beautiful maintained garden for growing organic fruit, veg and flowers to share. We are situated in Patricks Orchard, behind the Fox and Hounds pub. There is no membership fee and we are all volunteers. We meet every Saturday, weather permitting from 2 - 4pm. No experience necessary. All ages and abilities welcome, including accompanied children. Just turn up!

Council approves budget and states its opposition to Thames Water price hikes at a weighty February meeting. Three men arrested for animal welfare offences in joint RSPCA warrant – East Challow. We arrested three men for animal welfare offences as part of a joint warrant with the RSPCA in East Challow. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, our officers executed a warrant under the Animal Welfare Act at a caravan park in Woodhill Lane, supported by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit. Officers seized four puppies, two cockerels and two hens as well as a quantity of weapons. The animals are now in the care of the RSPCA. Read more on our website.
