Jubilee Field Autumn Tidy
A reminder that the Autumn tidy is scheduled for the weekend 2 and 3 November. We now realize that Saturday is not a good choice, with plenty of other attractions, including the Rugby World Cup final scheduled for that morning – with or without England playing. So why not come on Sunday? There is lots to be done and we will meet at the THMH at 10.00 am on both days.

Tom Brown's School Museum
The Museum closes after this weekend so this is your last chance to see this year's exhibition 'Uffington 50 years'. Open from 2pm to 5pm Saturday & Sunday so you still get to watch the rugby on Saturday & an extra hour in bed on Sunday.
Lots of ideas for Christmas presents including a new book of poems by John Betjeman, White Horse jewellery & aerial photos of Uffington. If you can't make it, the museum will have a stand at the Uffington Farmers Market Sunday 17th Nov & 15th Dec 10am to 12.30pm.

Burglary Crime Reduction Advice. We have recently received reports of burglaries in your area. Most of the burglars have managed to get into the property via the rear, through a back garden and then patio doors. Please review your garden security:
Is it easy to gain access to your garden? Have you got secure gates that can only be unlocked from inside the garden?
Have you got CCTV that covers access points to your property?
Are your sheds secure or can offenders easily remove tools that can be used to break into your property?
Please also look out for your neighbours. If you hear strange noises investigate them and if you see any suspicious vehicles or people you believe are scouting premises or looking to commit crime please report it to us by calling 999- we need the best chance to catch these criminals.

Pumpkins and garden waste – bin crews will be giving residents a bit of extra help in the coming month
Residents in southern Oxfordshire who recycle food and garden waste will benefit from extra help in the next few weeks. Hallowe'en usually means lots of leftover pumpkins at the start of November. Any that can't be used in cooking or composting can be collected by the bin crews if left next to the food waste bin. The pumpkins, like other food waste recycling, are taken to a processing centre in Oxfordshire where they is transformed into fertiliser and green electricity.
Extra garden waste
Residents across southern Oxfordshire who are signed up for brown bin collections can put out twice as much garden waste during extra garden waste weeks next month. Crews will collect the equivalent of one extra bin's worth of garden waste (around three large bin bags) in the week commencing 11 November. Residents should leave their extra garden waste out in bin liners or sacks beside their brown bins on their usual collection day during these weeks. Trade waste bags cannot be accepted. Church Auction
St. Mary's Church AUCTION is to be held on Saturday 9th November at the THMH. Our auctioneer is Simon Jones of Jones & Jacob of Watlington and the BBC's Flog It programme. The day begins at 12 noon for viewing the auction items, when Ploughman's Lunches and Homemade Soup will be available. Stalls of good Bric a Brac, homemade cakes and preserves, books and toys will be open for your perusal and purchase. Our Grand Autumn Draw, 1sr Prize a 32" TV/DVD player, has tickets on sale now and on the day. The Auction begins at 2.30pm.

Drainage around the village
I have information (from a reliable source) that the weather is likely to continue to be wet / windy / blustery for the next month or so. That means that the streams around the village will run strongly as the water table fills up; would all 'riparian owners' please make sure that the ditches for which they have responsibility are cleared of summer growth and kept clear. Please pass this message on to neighbours, and let the Parish Council know if you have any problems.
Review of the Delivery of National Neighbourhood Watch Strategy
At national level there is a three year transformation strategy in place, and we would like to seek your views on whether or not this is working for you, or if more change is needed. One of the ambitions of the strategy is to learn and improve, and we would like your help with this. We want to know if you understand these outputs, have used them and if you found them useful.

Rural crime prevention advice From Thames Valley Police
Rural Crime Prevention Advice. Rural crime can be an issue for large areas of the Thames Valley. As the evenings begin to draw in, we would like to take the time to remind you of simple steps you can take to help prevent becoming a victim of rural crime.
From 6-13 October, keep an eye out on our social media channels for key rural crime prevention tips and local activity that we carry out daily in support of rural crime prevention. These range from how to keep your machinery and equipment safe, to how to protect your land and boundaries.
At this time of year, we tend to see an increase in hare coursing, damage to fencing and boundaries, and acquisitive crime including theft and burglary in rural communities. It is important that you ensure your property is secure, fences and boundaries are looked after and that any suspicious behaviour is reported, providing as much detail as possible on the location and details of the people and vehicles involved.
Fly tipping is the illegal dumping of large items of waste. It is a civil offence to fly tip and so reports should be made to your local council. Reports of fly tipping in progress, with the offenders on scene should be reported to the police on 101.
