Uffington Wed Walk - 4th December - Christmas Lunch at Rose and Crown Ashbury. A reminder for the December Wed Walk - Wed 4th - a pleasant circular walk of four miles and mainly on bridleways. As always starting from Uffington Village Hall car park, meeting initially at 9:20 to allow for car sharing and setting off at 9:30. If you would prefer to come directly to Ashbury the walk should commence 9:45. Parking at Rose and Crown car park in Ashbury if staying for lunch. Could those not coming to the lunch please use street parking nearby. Thank you to everyone who is joining the lunch for returning your choices so promptly. The completed pre-order form has now been sent to the pub. The lunch is booked for 12:30.
There will be no Wed Walk for January 2025 but hope to see lots of you on Feb 5th.

Wanted: Monthly River Water Quality Testers. - Are you concerned about pollution in our local rivers and streams?
- Do you have 30 minutes to spare a month?
- If the answer is yes, then you could be a water watcher!
River charity Thames21 Putting Healthy Rivers at the Heart of the Community | Thames21 are looking for volunteer citizen scientists across the Vale of White Horse to monitor the health of local waterbodies every month. The data will be used to detect pollution hotspots and hold Thames Water, local councils, and the Environment Agency to account. All training, equipment and ongoing support is provided free of charge. There are two upcoming training events to hear in more detail about the project, meet other volunteers and learn how to take samples. Pre-booking is essential. Courier 200th Edition. The Winter 2024 edition of the Courier will be the 200th edition – celebrating 50 years of the Courier! Giles, the Editor, would like to make this a special edition by including a range of 1975 (-ish) related village memories from Uffington, Baulking and Woolstone. If you have any ideas or photos for potential articles for this special edition, please let Giles know ( courier@uffington.net) sooner rather than later – the cut-off for suggestions and articles is 7 December. If you would like to chat to someone about your memories, please also let us know so we can get someone to pop round and have a chat with you. Thank you.
WHAT'S ON - IN & AROUND UFFINGTON
White Horse WI – 27 November. Christmas preparations are in full swing! White Horse WI will be starting their preparations with a mini Christmas workshop, to take place on the 27th November at 7:30pm at the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall. We have a number of ladies making beautiful Christmas wreaths and there is an alternative idea to use an old paperback book and turn it into a Christmas decoration! If you are taking part in the wreath making don't forget an apron and secateurs, likewise don't forget to bring an old paperback you no longer need, if you are taking part in the alternative. We look forward to seeing you there.
