MESSAGE FROM YOUR MP
After a short holiday at the end of summer, Parliament started sitting on 1st September with a very busy first few weeks for me and my team.
At Prime Minister's Questions, I challenged Keir Starmer on the government's decisions to scrap the UK Space Agency - based at Harwell - as an executive body and make it part of a government department. With so many local businesses relying on the Space Sector, I will be keeping an eye on how this change impacts funding and governance.
In other debates at Westminster, I raised local concerns about vehicles parking on pavements and spoke about car sharing schemes in rural areas. I also had the pleasure of hosting local teenager, Mikayla, whose charity supports children being treated in hospitals across the UK. My first appearance on ITV's The Last Word gave me the opportunity to talk about the government's cabinet reshuffle and how that impacts on our constituency – for example, I had arranged for the Minister for Future of Roads to join a Bikeability session at a school in Wantage, but that minister is no longer in post.
At a Palestine Solidarity Campaign lobby event, I met with constituents opposing the selling of arms to Isreal. Engaging with my constituents on Palestine is vital, and I remain committed to ensuring that their voices are heard in Parliament. Alongside my Liberal Democrat colleagues, I will continue to urge the Government to take action to bring an end to this devastating situation.
Back in the constituency as well as holding regular surgeries for constituents, I visited the RWE Combined-cycle gas and steam turbine power plant at Milton Park, met with County Council officers to discuss poor broadband coverage in our villages, attended the Wilding and Andrew Service in Wallingford to remember the Canadian servicemen who gave their lives to save the town in 1944, and I met with Post Office staff in Didcot to discuss their challenges and changes to the services they provide.

Uffington First Wednesday Walk - 1st October 2025 Longcot to Faringdon with, unusually, an 8:50 start
As promised the cancelled Wednesday Walk from September will now take place on Weds 1st October.
Ten years ago a walk route "The Vale Way" was devised by the Vale Ramblers from Faringdon to Abingdon, which can be done in five stages. For our October walk we plan to walk the first stretch from Longcot to Faringdon, catching the 68 bus back to Longcot. So if you have a bus pass bring it along.
Because it is important to arrive at Faringdon in plenty of time for the 11:30 bus back to Longcot we will leave Uffington earlier than usual at 9:00 am. For those of you who would prefer to go straight to the start point in Longcot the meeting place will be The Green opposite the School, please park considerately in the village. The walk will start from Longcot at 9:15 and is an easy level 4.02 miles.
Meeting at Uffington Village Hall car park at 8:50 for car sharing and a 9:00 start. Weather is looking ideal, no rain bright and sunny sixteen degrees with a light breeze. We hope to complete the other four stages over the next few months, using public transport to return to our start point. Malin Lewis Thursday 25th Sept, Heather Ferrier Trio Friday 3rd Oct. St Nicholas Church, Baulking. Just under a week to go until the Malin Lewis show in Baulking. The bagpipe and fiddle virtuoso will be accompanied by honorary Scot and Scandanavian Marit Falt for what promises to be a lively evening of great musicianship.
Just over a week later the squeezing and clogging machine that is the Heather Ferrier trio will be playing the church. Heather originates from Stockport, which has a rich history with the accordion, but now lives in the north east from where the trio are embarking on their UK tour. Heather is a force to be reckoned with and is described as an engaging talker and magnetic performer but to me the three of them are just a great band. Oxford Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride - from Juliet Moss.
I would like to thank all those who so generously sponsored me for the OHCT ride and stride on Saturday. Jeremy and I cycled 48 miles and visited 22 churches, some of which we had never seen before. We thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and managed to miss the rain as well. Your generosity has helped us raise just over £900 of which half will go to St Mary's so we are so grateful to all of you who helped us achieve this.

GENERAL
The UK's hottest summer on record – An update from Thames Water: Please keep saving water this autumn. Thanks for helping us save more than 5 million litres of water per day by putting away your hosepipes. Despite the recent rain, our water reserves and groundwater levels will take time to recover and our hose pipe restrictions remain in place locally. For our reservoir levels to return to normal, we need at least 70% or more of our average rainfall between now and early next year.
That's because we've just had a summer described as 'the hottest on record' by the Met Office. In our region alone, we've had less than half the rainfall we would expect over the last few months. While the recent rainfall allowed us to take water from the River Thames to start topping up our reservoirs, it will take months of steady and prolonged rainfall for the dry ground, rivers and our reservoirs to recover. Heavy rain in some areas has helped relieve some of the pressure. But once it's soaked up by the excessively dry ground, it benefits our water resources much less. So it's essential that we keep going to protect everyone's water supplies.

Warning to Protect Your Pension from fraud. Savers and those reaching retirement age are being warned to protect their pensions and look out for criminals trying to catch people out of their life savings, with Action Fraud revealing a total annual loss of £17,567,249. This equates to roughly £48,129 lost to this type of fraud per day in 2024.
Data reveals there were 519 reports of pension fraud in total and £17,567,249 lost in 2024, with an average loss of £33,848 per person. Action Fraud, with support from the Pension Scams Action Group (PSAG), launched a pension fraud awareness campaign, warning people to take extra measures to protect their pension scheme accounts and to be cautious of investment opportunity offers from criminals that could be targeting them.
