Get help with home repairs. Oxfordshire County Council is to commence a Winter Warmth campaign. This campaign will help vulnerable Oxfordshire residents to stay independent, safe and well in their homes and will be running from the middle of January, indefinitely. There are services and funds available to help people (owners and private tenants) stay independent, safe and well in their homes, and Oxfordshire County Council has developed a referral service to help residents (or carers) access the right organisations in their area, to get the help they need.
The type of help that can be provided are services such as new boilers, repairs to boilers, loft or cavity wall insulation, access to a local and trustworthy repairs service and general advice on how to stay safe, well and affordably warm in your home. Avian Pox
There is evidence of Avian Pox in many of the Great Tits on bird feeders in the area of the Church in Uffington. The symptoms have not been seen in other species. Birds with avian pox develop warty or tumour-like growths, on the head (particularly next to the eye or beak), legs, wings, or other body parts. The growths are usually grey, pink, red or yellow in colour. Avian poxviruses are only known to infect birds, so there is no known risk to human or other mammal health from these viruses. The following has been recommended if you have birds with symptoms: - Stop feeding for a couple of weeks. (The weather is not forecast to be very cold.)
- Remove and disinfect feeders, bird table and bird bath.
- Reintroduce feeding and monitor, keeping GWH updated.

Flood Alert in force: River Ock from Watchfield to Abingdon, and also the Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney. Flooding is possible for: River Ock from Watchfield to Abingdon including, Stanford in the Vale, Charney Bassett, Lyford and Garford, and also the Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney.
Be prepared. Property flooding is not currently expected. River levels remain high but continue to fall on the River Ock and Letcombe Brook following recent rainfall. Therefore, the risk of flooding is currently reducing. From this evening (18/12/19), through tomorrow 19/12/19, Friday 20/12/19 and the weekend, we are expecting heavy, persistent showers across the area. We therefore expect river levels to rise further over the coming days and into the early part of next week. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are operating weirs to reduce flood risk and are in the area clearing weed/trash screens. Please remain safe and aware of your local surroundings and refer to the 'River and Sea levels in England' webpage for current river levels. This message will be updated tomorrow morning, 19/12/19, or as the situation changes.

What you might consider doing now:
* Monitor local water levels and weather conditions.
* Get ready to act on your flood plan if you have one.

* Prepare a flood kit of essential items including a torch with spare batteries, mobile phone and charger, warm clothes, home insurance documents, water, food, first aid kit and any prescription medicines or baby care items you may need.
* Check that you know how to turn off your gas, electricity and water mains supplies.
* In rural locations, farmers should consider moving livestock and equipment away from areas likely to flood.
* Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. 30 cm of fast-flowing water can move a car and 6 inches can knock an adult off their feet.
* Flood water is dangerous and may be polluted. Wash your hands thoroughly if you've been in contact with it.

Exercise Classes in Uffington
Next Monday (23rd) will be the last Body Blitz Circuits class of the year. This is a fantastic class to build lean muscles and shed body fat. Work your way through a variety of exercise stations around the hall, training and toning your entire body using various pieces of exercise equipment. Continued Appeal For Help To Find Missing Woman from Coleshill
Thames Valley Police is continuing to appeal for the public's help to trace Sally Braff, who is missing from Coleshill, Oxfordshire. Sally was last seen on Sunday (15/12) at about 7.30pm, and officers are extremely concerned for her welfare.
Investigating officer, Inspector Roger Lamboll, based at Didcot police station, said: "I would like to thank everyone who has so far shared our appeal to trace Sally, and I would ask them to continue to do this, and for people to be on the look out for her.
"We have received a report of a person matching Sally's description walking on the B4508 from Highworth, Wiltshire towards the A420 in Watchfield at about 7.30am yesterday (16/12).
"I would therefore like to ask any motorist who has any dash cam footage in that area yesterday morning to please get in touch, as your recording could be vital to our investigation.
"In addition to this, I would encourage people living in the Watchfield, Highworth, Shrivenham and Coleshill areas to please check their outbuildings and gardens for any sign of Sally. She suffers from dementia and is likely to appear cold and confused. If you have any details which you think could help us find Sally, please call us straight away on 101, quoting reference number 43190391596."

Jubilee Field – tree surgery
Weather permitting, it is intended that a number of dead / diseased / dangerous trees (in some cases, all three) will be felled on Tuesday 17 December. Usable timber (firewood) will be left behind the Shop and amongst the trees on the High Street side of the Jubilee Field. No vehicles on the Jubilee Field please.

Appeal for Witnesses Following A Burglary in Fawler Near Kingston Lisle. Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a burglary in the road running through Fawler. The incident took place between 2nd – 6th December. Offenders jemmied open a downstairs window and stole jewellery. Residents thanked as Oxfordshire is named top waste recycler in England. Oxfordshire has been named the best performing county council waste disposal authority in England for the sixth year in a row, thanks to residents' commitment to the environment. Last year residents recycled or composted a larger proportion of their household waste than the previous year, while the national average for recycling fell, according to new government figures released on 29 November. Recycling officers at Oxfordshire County Council point to residents recycling more of their food waste as an important reason for the increase. Nearly 20,000 tonnes of food waste was recycled in 2018-19 – up 6% on the previous year.
Yvonne Rees, Chief Executive at Oxfordshire County Council added: "We're not complacent though. This year more waste collected for recycling than ever before has been rejected due to the wrong waste being put into the wrong kerbside containers such as textiles, nappies and food being put in the mixed recycling bin. We know that around half the items placed in the general waste bin could have been recycled using the services provided locally, and this includes a huge amount of food waste. So please check your local council website, make sure you're recycling everything you can and look for tips on how to reduce the amount of waste your household produces."
