appointments to be offered face-to-face to those who need it.
NHS England has issued new guidance to GP practices across the country
on facilitating
more face-to-face appointments for patients. At the
start of the pandemic, GPs had to change the way they delivered care, moving more to online and
telephone appointments to help manage infection risks
whilst still caring for millions of people.
Whilst the changes worked for many, the reduction in in-person
consultations has left others struggling
to access the care they need. The move also looks to retain some of the
advantages of remote care as the sector looks to find
the right balance for the future.

Council matters
Calling all
HGV drivers; we need you to drive our bin lorries. South
Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils are actively
calling for HGV drivers to join their bin crews to avoid disruptions to
waste collections. Like many parts of the UK, the districts are facing a
shortage of HGV drivers for their bin crews due to a number of factors.

Councils
launch a Litter Bug Detectives Activity Trail for summer half term
holiday. From Saturday 29 May to Saturday 5 June
Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire district councils are running
a new Litter Bug Detectives Trail for children in four parks across
southern Oxfordshire. You can see details on our website by

How to take
part
- Go to our webpage here
– www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk/litter-bug-detectives-trail –
download the trail map of the park you wish to visit. The map will
show a trail to 13 sites around the park
- At each site there will
be a question on the themes of waste and recycling. The 13 answers
will provide you with a letter each to make two words.
Email the two-word answer and your
name and address to wasteteam@southandvale.gov.uk before midnight on Saturday 5 June
(World Environment Day) and we will send you a
Litter Bug Detective Certificate.

support available for residents in need in South Oxfordshire and the
Vale of White Horse. The last year has been tough for
many residents across Oxfordshire due to the pandemic. Households have
been hit financially by redundancies and furlough and have found
themselves with a day-to-day struggle to afford food and manage the costs

We'd like to
say a big "thank you" to all the volunteers across southern
Oxfordshire. The leaders of South Oxfordshire and Vale
of White Horse district councils have offered their thanks and
gratitude to the thousands of volunteers across both districts ahead of
volunteers' week. During the 37th annual Volunteers' Week, which takes
place from the 1-7 June, the councils will be taking the "time to

Uffington
Broadband Project – Last Call!
We are nearly ready to submit our list of properties to Openreach to
get going with the Community Fibre Partnership! We hope that the project
will:
- improve connection
speed and reliability of current fibre service – particularly for
multiple users, gamers and those who need to upload data.
- “future-proof” our
communications infrastructure to cope with
ever-increasing demand and faster bandwidth. If we rely on
government installation, it may be a 10 year wait for full-fibre
in rural areas – by which time our current fibre connections will
be as unfit for purpose as ADSL is now.
- take advantage of a new
government voucher scheme for businesses (£3500) and
homes (£1500) to organise fibre installation, and eliminate
individual installation costs.
There really is no commitment at
this point. This first stage will establish whether we can achieve the
entire project with government funding, or how many more properties we

Wednesday
2nd June at 9.30 - Uffington Village Walk
Now we are allowed to meet in groups of up to 30 outdoors and the
weather is improving it is time to resume the Uffington monthly walks -
really looking forward to catching up with you all.
Our first walk of 2021 will be a local one straight out of the
village on Weds 2nd June, meeting at Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall car
park from 9:20 leaving @ 9:30. It is difficult to know in advance
which areas will have dried out by next week. So in the mean time
we will have explored the routes out of the village to confirm the
driest underfoot and I will e-mail the chosen route by next Tuesday.

VOWH Ramblers are walking from Uffington to Longcot and back on
Thursday 3 June at 10:30 from the village hall car park. You are very

Benefice
200 Club: Last Draw of 2020/2021 Season
Whilst we are not yet fully out of Lockdown, we are unable to hold the
Benefice 200 Club Draws during a local event. So, we held the
last draw of the year in the THMH Car Park. The results are

Recent
telephone scam – from a Woolstone resident
I would like to share an attempted telephone fraud with other
neighbours in the area as I am extremely concerned, having just come
off the phone to Thames Valley 101 reporting service and Action Fraud
that this is a widespread activity.
If anyone receives a call purporting to claim that their National
Insurance number is being suspended due to identity theft, they should
disconnect from the call immediately and certainly should not follow
the instruction to ‘Press 1’. This option would take you to a
scam call centre and potentially sets in train both identity and
financial fraud. Any problems with NI numbers would only be followed up
by letter from the Home Office and never by telephone.
The telephone numbers used to contact me today are 07753 640281, 07753
640570 and 07753 640369 and on answering connects you to an automated
message. We also appear to have had three attempts on our
landline but, because we have call guardian, the phone does not ring in
the house unless the caller follows the instructions. The calls
to the landline were from two numbers commencing with 01904 and all six
calls attempted have been made over a one and a half hour period.
Interestingly one of the questions that Action Fraud asked me was
whether we had recently entered either our landline or my mobile number
in relation to ordering items online ...
I trust this information will be helpful to neighbours.
