| Uffington Primary School - 28 September Waylands Class (Years 5 and 6) are organising and hosting a Coffee Morning on Thursday 28th September from 9.30 am to 11 am in the school hall in aid of Macmillan the cancer charity. The children are busy baking and hope to raise lots of money for this fantastic charity. Please support them by dropping in for coffee (or tea!) and cake on Thursday morning. All are welcome!
Village news 22 September 2017 Improvements to the children's playground
Work is planned to start on Monday 2 October to remove the rather elderly agility trail at the Shop end of the children's playground, and new equipment will be installed in the following week. This end of the playground will be taped off for safety reasons until the work is completed. The Parish Council will be paying for this with some of the money which has come to the Parish from the development at Jacksmeadow, for the benefit of the community. We are very grateful to the Matthews family and the developers, Redcliffe Homes, for making this possible.
The Old School Room (Tom Brown's School Museum)
You may have seen that some restoration work has started to the plinth area of the south (road side) elevation of the Old School Room. We have been advised that it is not practical to complete the work during the autumn and winter months, and so a temporary tarpaulin covering will shortly be placed over this area in order to protect it from the weather.

The Prince Edward Island Clambake, Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, Uffington, October 2017
Over the last few years Baulking and Uffington have forged a substantial link with the musicians of Prince Edward Island. Starting with Gordie and the boys back in 2013 via The East Pointers, Vishten, Meaghan Blanchard and Ten Strings and a Goat Skin they all know when they turn up here the place will be jumping - and they appreciate it.
To celebrate this we have invited a trio of the trios to come back and play over a two week period at the end of October as the PEI Clambake.
It starts on Thursday October 19th with the fourth visit of The East Pointers and their popularity doesn't seem to wane. Their show back in June was a stunner and this time they will have a brand new record to promote so expect a night of foot stomping tunes and memorable songs.
The following Saturday, October 21st, will see the debut of Vishten in Uffington. Anyone who saw them in St Nicholas Church Baulking last summer will know how good they are and what fine ambassadors they are for the French Acadian tradition of the island. Their music is a blend of accordions, fiddles, flutes and extraordinary foot percussion and over the top of all this three part harmony vocals - and they step dance! They blend Celtic and French influences and, musically, are a link between the provinces of Eastern Canada and the cajun music of Louisiana.
The final night will feature Ten Strings and a Goat Skin on Wednesday 1st November. They are a bilingual trio who play traditional and original music from Atlantic Canada. Caleb, Jesse and Rowan are truly talented musicians and damn fine people who have taken their music all over the world and thrilled and impressed audiences where ever they have been. Like Vishten they played in the church at Baulking last summer to a standing ovation so we are delighted to have them back - despite Jesse "borrowing" my son's bike and taking off down the green.
These will be three extraordinary nights and the only place in the UK you will see these three acts together over fourteen days.

A Ford Fiesta and Range Rover collided head-on on the B4507
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash near Ashbury at around 8.25pm on Saturday 9 September. A male passenger in the Fiesta sustained fatal injuries and died. The female driver of the Fiesta and two female passengers of the Range Rover were taken to hospital where they were treated for their injuries. Investigating officer Roads Policing Police Constable Julia Stroud said:
'We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at that time and had seen the vehicles prior to the collision or the collision itself and have not yet spoken to us. Anyone with information which will help us determine the circumstances which sadly led to this man's death is asked to call 101 quoting ref 1365 9/9.'
Victims First
The Police and Crime Commissioner's new initiative Victims First is a website www.victims-first.org.uk which has advice on what to do and how to get help if you've been a victim of crime, including information on what you should expect from the police and other criminal justice agencies if you report the crime.
The focal point of the website is a directory which allows victims to find relevant support to help them cope and recover from the impact of the crime. You can use the website to refer yourself directly to the PCC's own support services, using the online form, or find information and contact details for other organisations. This support is available regardless of whether or not the crime has been reported to the police.

Tradesmen offering cheap tarmac driveways in Baulking
A Baulking resident was approached by two men, offering to tarmac their driveway with excess spoil from a job they had done. The work was suggested as being free, which later was advised had been 'three,' this being £3 per square foot of laid tarmac. A considerable sum of money was then demanded, after some had been laid. Following dispute, but no payment, some unpleasant attitude phone calls followed.
Two men visited, one in a blue car/small van, and another with a yellow and white, large HGV tipper truck. The name given was John McGinley. Please be cautious.

Plus the Curiosity Carnival is joining forces with the Night of Heritage Light 2017, in association with the Society of Light and Lighting, lighting some of Oxford's most iconic buildings like never before.
