Community 'Pop-up Café' on Broad Street – 10 till 2 on Saturday 29 October. Please support Sarah and Tony in their new venture, using local produce, at Belmont House, Broad Street, tomorrow, Saturday, from 10-2. Again, we will be promoting locally sourced produce and featuring Tony's magic. This is a new community facility and they need your support to make it work!

1. Courier Surveys. If you haven't completed your survey (either on paper to the box in the shop or online at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/O04JMN/ ,please do so BY 30 OCTOBER. So far, we have had about 140 returns for which we are very grateful. In summary, 84% are in favour of a 20mph zone either totally or partially and 60% would like a paper copy of the Courier either delivered or to be collected from the shop.
2. Roadside Litter Pick. The Parish Council would like to thank all those who turned out on a wet and windy weekend to help with the Autumn litter pick. There seemed to be less rubbish than usual which is probably due to individuals collecting litter on their walks and also that most of the longer-term litter in the ditches has been removed.
3. Jubilee Field Autumn Clearance – Saturday 5th November. The Autumn clearance will take place on Saturday 5 November with Sunday 6th kept as a reserve day if the Saturday is too wet. Volunteers should meet at the Village Hall at 10am, bringing appropriate tools, e.g., wheelbarrow, shears, rake, saw, secateurs. We normally finish the session by about 1pm. If any Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides or Brownies would like to join us we'd be delighted to see them, with some adult supervision.
Wed Walk - Wed Nov 2nd and Wed December 7th walk plus lunch. Hi Everyone, Our October walk celebrated the installation of yet more kissing gates in Uffington Village. We thanked the representative of the Trust for Oxfordshire's Environment who provided the funding for the gates. The gates have replaced older less accessible stiles making access to the footpaths around the village open for all. Two walks for you to consider this time - November and December with Christmas lunch.
November Walk - 2nd November. For November we have chosen a walk we enjoyed back in the Spring. A circular walk from Hatford Village taking us through Buckland Warren Wood, back via Frogmore Brook. A pleasant level 4.7 miles. Meeting initially as always at Uffington village hall car park at 9:20 for car sharing and a 9:30 start. For those of you who would like to meet us in Hatford the starting point will be on Sandy Lane (just by the phone box - about 100 yds down) at 9.45.
Weather looks reasonable for November; we are promised a light breeze and only occasional shower. 4.7 miles. If you would like a coffee after the walk, we will be going to Stanford in the
Vale coffee shop (25 High Street, next to the Co-op).
December Walk 7th December 2022. Looking forward to the December walk, we are planning a previously enjoyed walk from Letcombe Regis Village Hall OX12 9LJ. A circular walk heading up onto the Ridgeway we will return to Letcombe village and on to the Greyhound Pub. A table has been booked for 12:30.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to come along as we need to let the pub know expected numbers well in advance. The pub also requires our menu choices in advance and we can choose from the A la Carte or Festive menu; both menus can be found on the pub website: https://www.thegreyhoundletcombe.co.uk

White Horse Gardening Club - November Talk- Thursday November 3rd - TALK: ROSES
The speaker will be Stewart Pocock of Pococks Roses, Romsey, SO51 0QA. Pocock Roses were established in 1984, every year they produce in excess of 60,000 rose plants in a range of over 450 varieties. Join Mike Heaney of Oxford's Bodleian Library for a guided tour of Percy Manning's Oxfordshire -- its local history and unique customs spanning the nineteenth century.
The Man Who Collected Oxfordshire: The Antiquary Percy Manning. Percy Manning was an Oxford antiquary interested in all aspects of life in his county. He was a respected expert in local archaeology and history, but expanded his range into social history, custom, folklore and dialect. With the aid of his indefatigable agent Thomas Carter, he quartered the county looking for survivals of dying aspects of social life and custom, at first with an emphasis on collecting material remains but then turning to the more intangible aspects. He left his collections to the University of Oxford, where they now reside in its museums and libraries. Manning died in 1917, and the centenary of his death in 2017 was the stimulus for a lot of research into his life and work.

Two houses in the area of the Broad Street / Woolstone Road / Fernham Road junction were subject to garden shed break-ins earlier this week, probably on the night of Tuesday 25 / Wednesday 26 October. Flu Vaccine and Covid-19 booster.
It appears that information on the above may be hard to come by. The following may help:
If you're eligible for the free flu vaccine, it's likely you can get the coronavirus (COVID-19) seasonal booster. Getting both vaccines is important because: - more people are likely to get flu this winter
- you're more likely to be seriously ill if you get flu and COVID-19 at the same time
It's safe to have both vaccines at the same time, but you need to book them separately. If you're eligible for either vaccine, you do not need to wait to be contacted to get vaccinated. Avian influenza: Prevention Zone declared across Great Britain
Following an increase in the number of detections of avian influenza (bird flu) in wild birds and on commercial premises, the Chief Veterinary Officers from England, Scotland and Wales have declared an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) across Great Britain to mitigate the risk of the disease spreading amongst poultry and captive birds.
This means that from midday on Monday 17 October, it is a legal requirement for all bird keepers in Great Britain to follow strict biosecurity measures to help protect their flocks from the threat of avian flu. More information on the security measures to be adopted is here:

Village litter pick 22/23 October ROADSIDE LITTER PICK – 22-23 OCTOBER
As advertised in the Courier, the next roadside litter pick will take place over the coming weekend 22/23 October. It is hoped to complete the majority of the routes on Saturday morning – please meet at the Village Hall at 10.00am so we can agree the routes. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. 'Litter pickers', hi-vis gilets and collection bags will be provided.

Save the date - Vale Community Impact (VCI). The Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall has been booked for another afternoon event, to promote the VCI Good Neighbour Scheme. Horse Trailer Theft Appeal-Longcot 12-10-22. Thames Valley Police are appealing for information following a theft of a Black IFOR WILLIAMS horse trailer at 15:50hrs on Wednesday 12th October in Longcot, Faringdon. A black Ford Ranger pick-up with silver alloy wheels was seen towing the trailer away & most likely used the A420 to leave the scene.
