Parish Council maintenance work
The Parish Council will be carrying out some maintenance work next week: - Thursday 31 August. All Seasons Tree Solutions Ltd will be removing two trees on the Upper Common Lane side of the Jubilee Field, for safety reasons. Logs will be stacked and left as habitat within woodland, where possible, but will be available to be removed as firewood – please leave the stacks tidy.
- Friday 1 September (afternoon). Contractors will repaint the yellow lines and logos on the car park which mark off the pedestrian area. Again, this is for safety reasons. Please make sure that all cars are parked on the other side of the car park on Friday.

Thefts from vehicles – crime prevention advice:
Most vehicle crime is preventable. It can take as little as 10 seconds for a thief to steal something from your car. The best way to protect your belongings is to lock your car whenever you leave it. Other things you can do include: - Removing everything from the car; don't even leave a jacket where it can be seen.
- Closing the sunroof along with the windows when you leave.
- Not storing things in the boot or glove box; take them with you.
- Storing car ownership information in your home, not your car.
- Having a routine to ensure you always take the keys out of the ignition.
- Taking removable stereos and sat nav equipment with you.
- Using secure (theft resistant) number plates can make your plates less attractive to thieves.
- Reporting any suspicious people or behaviour to the police (by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency)

Burglaries Break-Ins
Last night, there were break-ins / burglaries in the Craven Common and Upper Common Lane areas of Uffington.
Police have been informed.
Last week, some residents in Baulking were woken in the early hours by the sound of someone walking about on the gravel drive, inside the gates of the driveway. It is understood that nothing was stolen, and the person left, once aware that the householder was up.
Please be extra vigilant, especially with a lot of people around during the bank holiday weekend. In emergencies, dial 999, or call Thames Valley Police on 101.
Can you help? Can you help?
Some in the village may know, or know of, Margaret and Terry Ferguson. They have lived in a static caravan at Britchcombe Farm for about 20 years, without running water, drainage or electricity, and could possibly be seen as having 'dropped through the net' of our social security system – albeit this has been of their choice for much of the time. Sadly Terry died on 7 August after a very short illness, leaving Margaret in a difficult situation. She is aged a little under 70, is not in the best of health, has no family locally and does not drive.
Fortunately the Vale District Council and Sovereign Housing have worked wonders to find her a bungalow in Stanford-in-the Vale, into which she will be moving shortly, and SSAFA (the Armed Forces Charity) are being very generous, as Terry was in the Army for 16 years. SSAFA is providing beds, electric cooker, fridge freezer and a washing machine; SSAFA website: https://www.ssafa.org.uk/
Whilst the Department of Work and Pensions may help with financial assistance, Margaret has very little furniture to take to her new home (having lived in a caravan for many years), apart from the goods being supplied by SSAFA, and is currently facing unfunded funeral costs of a little over £1,500.
How might you help?
If you have any of the following looking for a new home – small settee, chest of drawers, table with 2 or 3 chairs, a mirror or two, bed side table and lamp and possibly other incidental furniture suitable for a bungalow - all safe and in decent condition, they would be much appreciated. Some curtains are needed, but I am not sure of the window dimensions at present. (Pots and pans, cutlery and crockery are not needed).
