PM announces easing of lockdown restrictions: 23 June 2020
Lockdown. The Prime Minister's statement on Wednesday on the relaxation of lockdown included that playgrounds could open from 4 July; the Parish Council is checking whether we will have to apply any restrictions when the playground is re-opened. Please note: - Advisory guidance to be eased for 2.2 million clinically extremely vulnerable people across England, as virus infection rates continue to fall
- From Monday 6 July, those shielding from coronavirus can gather in groups of up to 6 people outdoors and form a 'support bubble' with another household
- Government shielding support package will remain in place until the end of July when people will no longer be advised to shield
Medication. We understand that the White Horse Medical Practice in Faringdon is shortly to revert to allowing bulk collection of medication and delivery to Uffington Shop. If anybody is unhappy with collecting their own medication from the Shop, please contact your local member of the UBW Support Group, Simon Jenkins or Mike Oldnall.

Longer term plans for permanent increases in cycleways will lead to a step-change in Oxfordshire's cycling infrastructure. The Parish Council was recently made aware of this funding, which is part of a Government policy to encourage 'active travel' – jargon for more walking and cycling, as we come out of the coronavirus pandemic. This will also be in line with Government policies on climate change. After consulting with Uffington Primary School, the Village Hall and the Vicar, we drew up a 'wish list' on which the highest priority items are to encourage walking or cycling to school, and to reduce speeding both in the village and on the approach roads. In the short term we have put forward the following for feasibility studies by the Highways department: - Getting a 'pop-up cycle lane' to be in place for next term, on the south side of Broad Street, to encourage children to cycle to school
- For extra cycle parking to be installed at both ends - village hall and school.
- On implementing reduced speed limits, on the 'ring road' round the village and on Lower Common, and,
- On the 'physical' measures which might be possible, to reduce speeding on the Fawler and Fernham roads.

UFFINGTON WEDNESDAY WALKS ARE BACK! 😃🚶♂️ 🚶♀️👏
Dear Walking Friends,
We have had several requests to start up the village walks again. So, following a walking club committee meeting at Childrey coffee shop Lilly, Pamela and I feel it would be appropriate, given recent lockdown changes, to start up the walks again albeit with certain changes to enable us all to stay safe and within the government guidelines. We will divide ourselves into groups of six and leave at staggered times to ensure the groups don't run into each other. For now, all walks will need to start locally as car sharing would not be inappropriate.
We have chosen a walk for 1st July which will start from Baulking, meeting at the car park by the church. Those of you who would like to cycle to Baulking for the beginning of the walk are welcome to leave your bikes by Hilary Deakin's house, in the driveway to the left by the garage. We will divide ourselves into groups of six and leave at staggered times The walk route will take us over to Stanford in the Vale on the bridleway (We had originally planned to go via Shellingford but when recced found stiles and paths were impassable in places). So we will head straight to Stanford, the coffee shop will be the turn around point, and return on the foot path bringing us back via the lake.
Meeting as always at 9:30 but this time in Baulking. Really looking forward to meeting up with you all again and hearing your tales of lockdown. Maybe some of you will have some new walk routes to introduce?

Penny Spink has been asked by the National Gardens Scheme if she will open Midsummer House garden in aid of our wonderful nurses, and she has agreed to open on this coming Sunday – 21 June. She is not allowed to do teas and distancing rules have to be strictly observed.
So the garden will be open on Sunday June 21st from 2pm - 6pm. £4.00 per head - with no more than 15 people in the garden at any time. It is necessary to book a time slot (i.e. 2pm 3pm 4pm or 5pm).

Sharing the Roads. During the Covid-19 pandemic we have all had to accept some restrictions and guidelines that went against some of the normal freedoms we usually experience in this country. Everyone has largely responded with great community spirit, behaving more considerately towards others with acts of kindness and respect.
So as once-empty roads fill up again with more cars, lorries, motorcyclists, plus many more people now enjoying cycling and walking, the roads and pavements may all be busier. So, it's even more essential that we all slow down and watch out for each other as traffic begins to increase. Now, as some restrictions are eased, it is important to remember that laws around driving and driver behaviour are there to protect us all. Please: - wear your seatbelt
- don't drink and drive or take drugs and drive
- stop your car somewhere safe if you need to use your mobile phone when driving
- drive within the speed limits and adjust that speed according to conditions.
We, at Oxfordshire County Council's Fire & Rescue Service and our colleagues in Thames Valley Police, ask you to look out for each other by being a responsible and considerate road user.

Summer Solstice Weekend 20/06/2020
Please be aware that as Stonehenge and Avebury are both closed this weekend, there is a possibility that White Horse Hill and particularly Wayland's Smithy will become the 'go to' sites for gatherings. To that extent, NT rangers and the Police will be on duty/patrol this weekend to keep an eye on things, particularly if we have large numbers arriving. If so, we are prepared to allocate our overflow parking field as a temporary stay point overnight to ensure any pressure does not impact on our local surroundings.
