This is to promote what we do at the Uffington and Stanford scout groups and the Stanford girl guiding groups, and hoping to engage with some new volunteers. Friends of the Ridgeway

It's not worth the risk. Do you know that 95% of collisions are due to human error? The big fatal four on our county's roads are: Distraction, Speeding, Not wearing a seatbelt and Driving under the influence of drink or drugs. Could you? - put your phone in your glove compartment or set your phone to do not disturb before you start your journey
- adjust your speed and make sure you have time to react to the unexpected
- make sure everyone is wearing their seatbelt before you set off
- get a taxi, the bus or be the designated driver on a night out
- make sure you're safe to drive the morning after, you could still be over the drink drive limit, even if you feel fine

Training - Ten weeks' training at our Force Training Centre in Sulhamstead

Village news 19 April 2019 Communications Survey
The Parish Council was pleased to see c25 residents at the Annual Assembly on Monday 8 April. One of the agenda items was a discussion about improving communications in the village, and a survey has been distributed with the latest Courier; paper copies should please be returned to the Shop by 30 April. Safety advice for parents Now that we are in the school holidays and your children may be involved in extracurricular activities please take the time to consider where your children are going and who they may be coming into contact with. It is important to ensure that any club, youth group, or organisation is registered with an official body that can regulate them. Please consider that appropriate checks such as DBS (replaced the old CRB checks) and recruitment procedures are in place for those who are involved in the running of such clubs.
We recommend asking what safeguarding policies and training those involved in the clubs have. Please don't assume that every club which involves children is strictly regulated. If you have concerns about the safety of a child or the running of an organisation involving children then please contact The Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on 0345 0507666.

Uffington Footpath 12
As summer approaches, don't forget FP 12, which was greatly improved by the installation of kissing gates last year; it runs from Broad Street via the back of Jacksmeadow, to Uffington Gorse. The path is now much more in evidence than it was before the improvements, which were made possible by a grant from the Trust for Oxfordshire's Environment (TOE) with funds from Grundon Waste Management. We are grateful also to the Vale Path Volunteers, path maintenance team of the VOWH Ramblers group, who removed many hung-up trees off the paths and cleared away brush.

Village news 12 April 2019 Parish Council - Local Council Elections
The Parish Council is pleased that the District Council has received 6 nominations for the 6 vacancies on the Council, so these nominations have been 'duly elected without a contest'. So there is no need for an election for the Parish Council on 2 May. More on this later; the new Council is effective from 7 May, but please note that the next PC meeting and AGM have been postponed until Monday 20 May.

Friends of the Ridgeway : Ridgeway Friends Day and AGM
The Ridgeway Friends Day, on Sunday 28 April 2019, is planned to be of interest to all those who value the Ridgeway - its landscape, history and natural history. It will include the AGM for the Friends of the Ridgeway but also a wider range of activities, including the Swire Ridgeway Arts Prize Exhibition and Prize giving, a guided walk along the Ridgeway to Waylands Smithy and the White Horse, a Dance display by The Vale Islanders, and a complimentary cream tea. It will be held in the Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall, Uffington (Broad Street, Uffington, Oxfordshire, SN7 7RA), located in the centre of the beautiful and historic rural village of Uffington in the Vale of the White Horse; the exhibition will be open from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Refreshments will be served. We hope that the day including the Art Exhibition will be as interesting and exciting as last year; do come along and learn about the Ridgeway.
