Village news 30 August 2019 St Mary's Church
Due to the intense heat over the WHS weekend we still have a good supply of jams, jellies, marmalade and pickles for sale in the church. Anyone who was unable to get to the Show is encouraged to pop into the church and purchase their favourites.

For our September walk on Wed 4th we will walk from the car park west out of the village and through Woolstone on to Compton Beauchamp. A walk many of you have enjoyed before and always good to do while it is still dry under foot, towards the end of summer.

Village news 23 August 2019 The Teapot Tearoom
The Teapot Tearoom is open all over the bank holiday weekend from 11 till 8 pm on Saturday and Sunday and 11 till 6 pm on Monday. Walk from Uffington on 27 August 2019
On Tuesday 27 August the Vale of White Horse Ramblers group is walking from Uffington to Uffington Castle via Woolstone, Whitehorse Hill and back via The Ridgeway and Britchcombe Farm. (5.5 miles). Katrina Porteous – Horse
Last November, Katrina spent a week in the village, working with the School and Tom Brown's School Museum, and culminating in a performance of 'Horse' in the village hall, which was much appreciated by an audience of c40 people. Katrina's hope was to put on a performance of 'Horse' in the Uffington landscape in or around September 2021. Sadly she has been unable to obtain the funding for this and the project has been cancelled; Katrina will let us know if she has any more positive news in the future, but she has asked me to pass on her apologies, deepest thanks and warmest best wishes to everyone in Uffington who supported 'Horse'.
Village news 16 August 2019 St. Mary's - White Horse Show stall
Wanted! This is an appeal for cakes for our church stall at the White Horse Show. Please get baking for this important annual show. All items welcome and may be delivered to any of the following: Linda Lord (820134), Valerie Foster (820668), Fenella Oberman (820230) and Fay Forster (820363 – but not before 23rd Aug.)
There has been a wonderful response to the call for jam jars; thank you to everybody who contributed. The next thing is to come to the Church stall at the WHS and purchase our jams, pickles and marmalade.
Demolition of the old shop
Wanted! Rose and Dave Holborow would like some assistance with the continuing strip out and demolition of the old shop site on Broad Street. Technical skills not required. If you can help, please discuss with Rose.
(For the avoidance of any doubt, please note that this is not a Parish Council project with regard to insurance cover or any personal protective equipment which might be required).
Waylands Smithy
There has been some lurid national publicity, starting in the Telegraph last Saturday and picked up by other nationals, of Neo-Nazi groups using National Trust sites such as Avebury and Waylands Smithy for 'far right rituals'. I was made aware of this by the National Trust on Monday 12th and visited Waylands Smithy that day. There was no evidence at all of any of the activities described by the Telegraph and other papers. There are no new swastikas carved into the trees, but there is a very old one at the back of the site. Contact has been made with the local gamekeeper (who is regularly up in that area at night) and harvest contractors and there has been no activity at Waylands Smithy that they know about. There has been no sign of extra or unusual traffic in the area recently.
So the press reports may well be over-blown. Whether or not that is the case, dealing with far-right groups is a matter for the Police, so if you hear or see anything which relates to these activities please contact the Police promptly on 101, or: https://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/contact/contact-us/

Abandoned Child's Bicycle
A children's bicycle has been left outside the shop in the bike rack for several weeks now. The puncture has been repaired and the bike, a purple Apollo CX24, is ready to be reclaimed. If this is your bike, please claim it back from the shop as soon as possible. If you no longer want the bike, please let Rose or Dave in the shop know so a new home can be found for it.
The Kennet Valley Hash House Harriers - in Uffington on 1 September
The Kennet Valley Hash House Harriers will be meeting at 11am outside the Fox and Hounds pub in Uffington on Sunday 1 September, to follow a circular hash trail.
Hashing is a friendly activity involving a group of runners and walkers following a pre-laid trail (using flour) through the village and local countryside. There will be 2 trails - one around 5 miles and a shorter trail of around 3 miles. There are no fees and you don't have to be a member - Everyone is welcome.

The Ridgeway Run - In aid of Riding for the Disabled – on Saturday 21st September
The Ridgeway Run 2019 is proudly sponsoring Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) a charity that makes a difference. Based in Chilton Foliat, Lambourn RDA are completely self-supporting, so fund raising is essential in order to run a local riding centre. The RDA support children and adults from Hungerford, Kintbury, Lambourn, Newbury, Thatcham and the surrounding villages. Temporary Road Closure - Kingston Lisle, B4507
Please note we have been informed that the B4507 from Kingston Lisle to Woolstone will be closed overnight to facilitate carriageway surface patching works, starting on 9 September 2019. The anticipated completion date is 14 September 2019. Works will operate nightly between the hours of 20:00 and 05:30. Limited access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and for frontages within the closed section of road, subject to the progress of the works
