Airband. Kat Foxhall and Mike Oldnall had the scheduled meeting with Airband last Friday. Airband apologised and acknowledged that they had not handled the initial engagement with Uffington residents well, however, they had made significant progress replanning the fibre installation around the village. The key points are: - The old plan with 18 poles is dead and buried
- The new plan will probably have just new 4 poles and a couple of old BT poles replaced, in situ with new Airband poles.
- Due to having fewer poles there will be limited amounts of digging, with possible short-term traffic disruption, in order to bury some small sections of the new fibre. As a result, some properties will have their connection via a small 'manhole' rather than via an overhead line from a pole.
- The final plan should be available soon and they will share this with us
We will keep you informed of the revised plan as soon as we know it. We will issue an update to Kat's email of 29 May (for those who are signed up for it) about the longer term and wider options for Uffington as soon as the new plan and dates are known. Dangerous litter – on the Jubilee Field
Residents have reported that they have recently had to pick up glass bottles (Corona beer, etc) on the Jubilee Field. Whilst no rubbish should be left on the Jubilee Field or elsewhere around the village, broken glass in the grass is particularly dangerous for small children and dogs.
Please make sure that all rubbish is disposed of responsibly; there are plenty of litter bins around the village.
World Heritage Site
Some residents may have been aware that the Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) opened a consultation in March, with a view to seeking UK applications for sites to be submitted to UNESCO for World Heritage Site status. A suggestion that the area around Whitehorse Hill should be submitted has been extensively researched but abandoned this week, due to lack of support from key local stakeholders and increasing realization that obtaining World Heritage Site status is an extremely lengthy and costly process.

Fuel Thefts. Be Vigilant. As fuel prices rise, more individuals are turning to crime in order to acquire fuel through theft from machinery/vehicles fuel tanks; taken from farms & housing construction sites.

Saying Goodbye. Saying Goodbye, (part of the Mariposa Trust) are returning to Oxford in July with a Baby loss remembrance and support service (part of a Nationwide chain of events). We are so delighted to be able to return to a full program of events following the effects of Covid-19.
The Mariposa Trust's core objective is to support people who have lost babies at any stage of pregnancy, at birth, or in infancy. It was founded in 2012, by Zoe and Andy Clark-Coates, who saw a critical lack of support for people like them, who had gone through baby loss. With over 258,000 babies being lost yearly in the UK alone, the charity needed to be able to offer not only a comprehensive package of befriending and support but also national baby loss remembrance services (called Saying Goodbye Services), for people to join together and remember the children they had lost. 6 years on, over 130 services have taken place at Cathedrals and Minsters across the UK, US, and France, and 2022 will see 20 services across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

So who is the service for? Anyone who has either personally lost a baby at any stage of pregnancy, at birth, or in early years, or who has been affected by family members or friends' loss. Whether the loss was recent or 80 years ago, everyone is welcome to attend. We have also extended the services, and gladly welcome anyone who is grieving the fact that they haven't had children. This may be due to circumstance, infertility, or for other reasons - but all are welcome. Babies and children are also invited to come with their families, as the Saying Goodbye service is truly a family event for all.
We know that as 1 in 4 women suffer miscarriage and baby loss, you will have contact with a significant number of people who have either personally suffered baby loss, or who have a partner or family member that has, so we wanted to ask if you would help us in promoting the service.

The function will close at midnight. The organisers are aware that noise should not be excessive and that the Jubilee Field should be left accessible for the Farmers Market on Sunday.
We would like to offer our best wishes for a happy day to the couple getting married.

Run by Oxfordshire County Council, the Home Library Service is completely free and delivers books and other library materials to hundreds of people across the county.
Friendly volunteers choose items you like and visit every three weeks to deliver and collect them. The service is open to people who struggle to physically visit a library. It's also available on a short-term basis after illness or hospitalisation, and to people with caring responsibilities.

Queen's Platinum Jubilee. In the aftermath of a fantastic event on the Hill to mark the historic Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth's 70 year reign as our monarch, I would like to extend a huge thank you to the Uffington community whose efforts ensured our beacon fire event was a joy to behold for all. Be that assisting in preparing the fire pit, building the beacon, donating pallets and fire wood or just simply coming along to attend, it all added to a wonderful evening where we really made our mark. And a special mention to the following:
Mike Oldnall, Simon Knapper, Geoff Keene, Andrew and Simon Jenkins, Mike Sellwood, Dan McSharry Compton Beauchamp Estate, Karen Pilcher, Jez Webb Webb's Wood and Shrivenham Defence College Military Wives' Choir.

AIRBAND POLES. Due to the numerous complaints, Airband has suspended the published 'poles' plan and is reviewing all the proposed pole locations so you will see various network folk around the village looking at each pole location to ascertain whether it is necessary and needs to be where it is and looking to identify possible alternatives. This work is due to be completed by Wed 15 June. Kat and I have a call booked to discuss the outcome of the survey, and a possible revised plan, with Jason on Friday 17 June.
Airband has asked that you do not bombard them with further questions until this work is complete (unless it is for enquiries other than about poles). I would be grateful if you do need to contact Airband, if you would copy any correspondence to broadband@uffington.net so Kat and I can monitor the exchanges.

Road closure details have been announced for the Oxfordshire stage of the Women's Tour professional cycling race on Saturday 11 June. There will be rolling road closures from 11am from the race start area in Chipping Norton, controlled by police and route marshals, which will then continue along the route. The race is due into Uffington from the Fernham direction (Museum junction) at c1.00 pm, turn right on the Woolstone Road, right again up Broadway to the B4507, and away towards Wantage. Please keep these roads clear of parked cars for the duration.
Litter. Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire district councils have launched a joint litter mapping project aimed at identifying where and what type of items are littered, this information will then be used to target those areas. You can see details on our website by clicking this link
From Thames Water.
Update, tankering activity. Further to recent correspondence, I welcome this opportunity to provide you with an update on your case. as promised.
As you may be aware, the tankering activity in Uffington has now come to an end. The NSAF (Nitrifying Submerged Aerated Filter) unit, which uses a biological oxidation process to remove microscopic particles in sewage has seeded up quicker than we thought. This is great news and means we are now treating sewage at site.
Once again, I'd like to thank you and the wider community for your patience while our essential tankering activity was taking place in and around the village.
Next steps. We are waiting for funding approval for a reedbed full refurbishment later in the year.
